Because I'm still a bit new to habanos, I decided to embark on a little project to watch the full glory of the FoH video review catalog and take in as much context and experience as I could from that

I've been keeping up with the video reviews and entering data as the reviews are released, and thought I'd offer a few new charts and graphs, with brief commentary: Robusto, Robusto Extra, and

This is really lacking data around what Springsteen songs were played in the background during the review. Do over. ;-)

I've been keeping up with the video reviews and entering data as the reviews are released, and thought I'd offer a few new charts and graphs, with brief commentary:

vitola.png
Robusto, Robusto Extra, and Pyramids are by far the most well-represented vitolas under review.  Ken has no grounds to complain about Rob constantly bringing short cigars!  (For reference, I look up each reviewed cigar on cubancigarwebsite.com and use the vitola given by that site, wherever possible.)

gauge.png
As you would expect, gauges between 49 and 52 represent the bulk of reviews, but 42-48 are about as frequent.  Baseball bats are truly rare, and true skinnies are not that common.

length.png
Interestingly, lengths are all over the map and appear to be well-represented across the board, with a bias toward the shorter lengths overall, it appears.  Maybe Ken's gripe that Rob brings shorter cigars more often than not has some merit?

I'm pleased to report a recent uptick in "View Obscured" in the Ken Footwear Tracker, thanks in large part to the new patio furnishings.  Bravo!  :2thumbs:

features.png
Recording problems are still more numerous non-cigar-related features of reviews, outpacing Ken's draw-related objections and even The Boss.  But as they are the source of much hilarity, that's fine with me.  :D

Finally, with 12 reviews in the books for 2016 so far, we're on pace to have more video reviews this year than in any of the previous 3 years.  If Rob & Ken can crank out 20 reviews, they'll beat the 2011 total of 19, and reach a 5-year high.  Can they do it?  :fishing:  :lmao:

That is pretty damn impressive - thank you for sharing it

If it's easy enough to put together, could you chart the average length and ring gauge over the years?

You bet.  Not sure if it would be interesting to chart, but here's a data table with a few properties averaged by year:

Year # Reviews Avg Gauge Avg Length (mm) Avg Length (in) Avg Age (years)
2008 6 51 130 5.1 0.7
2009 63 47 147 5.8 2.4
2010 40 47 143 5.6 2.2
2011 32 47 149 5.9 3.0
2012 22 49 138 5.4 2.0
2013 15 50 148 5.8 2.3
2014 16 50 154 6.1 1.1
2015 18 50 149 5.9 2.4
2016 13 49 157 6.2 6.4
Overall 225 48 147 5.8 2

I decided to throw in cigar age (at the time of the review), and it turned out to have the most variation.  2016 has been the year of the aged cigar, for two reasons: (1) the crew received several well-aged cigars from forum benefactors (Bill?), (2) the Anejados program.

Still poking around the data looking for insights.  Is average score by year interesting?

Untitled.png

Though seemingly interesting on the surface, I don't think this is a useful way of representing the data.  In the case of 2016, the average is dominated by the hideous rating given to the Hermosos #4.  Perhaps distributions of ratings would show more, though with more complexity?  In the following graph, I bucket scores and plot which % of ratings fall into each bucket, per year.  "Good years" are those with more purple and green, and less blue and red.

Looking at this more granular data, 2016 is probably the best year of all, with 75% of cigars getting 90 points or higher, and fully 25% of cigar ratings at 97 points or higher!  2015 was also a strong year, with no crap, but fewer blockbusters. :)
