NweakO Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 My friend wants me to get him a box of cuban cigars. He is pretty much new to cigars (he has only tried D6). He wants them thick, medium sized and on the sweeter side (I tried to convince him to start with a petit corona or a sample of different sizes). I recently finished a box of RyJ wide churchils and I was pretty impressed. So I was thinking a 10 count box of wide churchills and magnum 50 each. Anyways I wanna hear other people's thoughts, just keep in mind he wants them heavy on the ring gauge (50>) lol.
NSXCIGAR Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 The Wide Churchills would be a good choice. Just be sure to get those nice rosado wrappers. I know Rob has a good eye for picking RyJ wrappers. I would expect the RyJ to be a little more "sweet" than the Upmanns, if that's something you're looking for.
wea1959 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I would recommend one of the FOH sampler packs. You can find a list of the contents at http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=122236 and order fro the online store. Great varieties for an intro.

Why not try the Robusto Sampler? Bolivar Royal Corona Cohiba Robusto Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 Juan Lopez No. 2 Partagas Serie D No. 4 Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion No. 4 Ramon Allones Specially Selected Vegas Robaina Famosos All are 50 ring gauge by 124 mm (4.8 inches) except the Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion No.4 and Vegas Robaina Famosos which are 48 ring gauge by 127 mm (5 inches).
garbandz Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 your idea is great, get him the RyJ and Mag 50............. He trusts your taste and likes thick cigars.
cpmurrin Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I like your choices as well. Both smoking pretty good right off the truck as well
TheMonk Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I realize the Wide Churchs have a lot of fans, but I much prefer the Mag 50, TBH. It remains my favorite current production smoke, and I find it considerably superior to the Wides in terms of taste. They smoke pretty well as fresh, but if you give them a couple of years... I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
NweakO Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 True magnum 50s aren't as sweet but they have that stone fruit thing going on that I think he will like. Yea I think I'll settle for these two. Thank you all
