Hey everyone I was wondering if you had any good advise for restoring dry cigars? I searched the net but it seems like every site tells you something different. So I figured you guys are all pro's and would know all the best ways.

They are quite dry but not crumbling or becoming unwrapped.

A family member brought a ton back from there 2009 Cuba trip and failed to keep there humidor up and running. As I recently found out about there great stash I would love to be able to enjoy these.

Thanks in advance for any input

There are some pretty good ideas other people have offered up on here. Do a search. Have to bring they back slowly by increasing the humidity.

Try smoking one, you might be very pleasantly surprised.

Give the cap a lick on the top and it's sides and wait a few minutes before cutting the cap off so that you don't damage the wrapper during the cutting process.

If you do this, let us know how it smoked.

Where are you located? Can you squeeze them without causing cracks or breaks?

I'm in Edmonton Alberta Canada

I can squeeze them without cracking them but I wouldn't want to get carried away as they feel brittle

Thanks I see everyone says bring them back slow. I don't mind if I need to wait a few months as it would be a shame to toss them out.

I was hopping I could just put them in a humidor for a few months and just turn them every few days for the first few weeks.

take them out of the humi and put them in a ziplock bag,or two, depending on quantity.feet towards opening, please.

get a hygrometer ,put it in the bag.determine current rh..........also note temp.

cut a 4 inch square of paper towel.fold it twice, and put 3 to 4 DROPS of water on it,put it in the plastic bag.

you can add 3 to 4 more DROPS of water each time the paper towel is dry.it will take a few days.

this will take time, but I have used it many times and it works................

That's sound nice and easy how long would you recommend doing this roughly? Days, weeks, months?

Also would a water pillow work?

I wouldn't be worried then. If they don't crack then they've been stored at no lower than 35-40 RH. You should be good to go.

So you think I can just put them in the humidor and let them sit for a few weeks and be good to go?

Thanks everyone for the great info. I think I will try everyone's input and see what works best for me. As there is a ton probably 60ish so I don't mind trying a few out in different ways

Here are 4 of them I and going to try to revive but they actually don't seem to be that bad for just sitting in a non charged humidor sense 2009.

Maybe Santa will be nice to you lol

I would experiment with 5 different cigars ( if there is that much variety) and a 60 RH boveda pack in some Tupperware. Monitor them for wrapper splitting and after 30 days try one. If splitting occurs the 60 RH is obviously too much too soon. If it's too much it will happen quickly. Every cigar is different. If one splits a little don't panic. Worst cast you put a bunch of pin holes in a zip lock bag and try again the same way.

While you're doing that take the time to properly season the humidor so it's ready for the cigars you revive. Season it to a constant 60 RH if you can.

Good luck.

P.S. There are a bunch of super knowledgable guys in your area who frequent the forum. Maybe they will reach out to help you. You all know who you are! ?
