Ken Gargett Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 just came across this - only one form of alcohol was allowed to be imported into the united states during prohibition. and that was laphroaig malt whisky. the reason was that it was so high in iodine content that it became "medicinal". 3
Fuzz Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I read somewhere that only Islay scotch was allowed, due for the same reason you mentioned.
shlomo Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 There was plenty of legal alcohol during prohibition. Wine for religious institutions, medicinal alcohol, alcohol using in manufacturing. People were even allowed brewing and creating their own wine and beer. 1
Maplepie Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Reminds me of that one TreeHouse of Horror episode where Bart has to sit beside Üter and partake in his candy, Joy Joys, that contains "Mit Iodine!" Sent from the Enigma via Tapatalk for BlackBerry Classic.
