shlomo Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 tennis match, the aussie (i'm sad to say) has a track record of acting like a complete tosser. in the heat of the game, he announces to all listening that a mate of his "banged" the other bloke's girlfriend. who knows if it is true ort or happened in the past or just said to offend him, but it certainly was not one bloke helping out another. it was malicious in the extreme. he was immediately hit with a 10k fine, which was max, and might face further suspension. I see. Is trash talking not allowed in tennis?
Ken Gargett Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I see. Is trash talking not allowed in tennis? i think they feel that tennis is a sport above that and that sort of thing is unacceptable. would happen 1,000 times in every footy game but not in tennis. poor form. and they don't want it heading down that track.

Fair enough. I was going to say that in dozens of other athletic competitions things 1000x worse would be said every game/match. This truly nbd.
jimsta10 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I hope I don't get too much heat for this......could help myself, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this.
soutso Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I had to google this one to get the Englishman's name but it's a genuine classic: James Ormond came out to bat in a match with Australia. Mark Waugh, at slip, let rip: "What are you doing out here? You're too **** to play for England!" Ormond replied: "Maybe so, but at least I'm the best player in my family".

Ken Gargett Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 All I can say his mum must be soooo proud of her boy her boy probably bought her a new house. i'd say she is coping. and that mark waugh quote is a brilliant one. quite famous and deservedly so. well done tracking it down.

Guest rob Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I know Nick, and their family. I was chatting with him only 3 weeks ago when he was back here at home. It was clear to me that he was struggling with the aftermath of Wimbledon and Davis cup wash up. He was really out of sorts, and I feel he was unprepared mentally, and lacking in a mental / verbal filter - A classic case of the Homer Simpsons - where he says what he's thinking, before he has a chance to consider whether he should, or shouldn't. His family are VERY humble people, living in the same middle class house that they have for years. Mum and dad still work. They are a very tight knit family. There's no excusing he is clearly a brat. He always has been since he was in his early teens..... But I feel that he isn't coping well with the attention and scrutiny, and someone needs to drag him aside and not let him out in public until he understands how to behave as professional athlete, let alone as a decent person.
jat Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Come on, Stan needs to think on his feet. Kyrgios should be open to a tonne of sledging with a hair cut like that !!! a multi coloured pepe la pew. 1
wabashcr Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I saw the video of the incident, and while he definitely said it loud enough to be picked up by a camera, he was clearly not saying it for Wawrinka to hear. It was between points, not at the net or during a changeover. Kyrgios definitely runs hot, and I think this was more just blowing off some steam than anything else. It's unfortunate that he said it aloud, and the cameras picked it up, but I don't think it brings the game into disrepute or anything like that.

Here's a link that shows the video. http://deadspin.com/nick-kyrgios-to-stan-wawrinka-kokkinakis-banged-your-1723811501 He was obviously talking about Wawrinka, but he appears to be behind the baseline, facing the direction of the ball boy when he says it, not really toward Wawrinka. Wawrinka definitely didn't hear it. Not defending him for saying it, because it was out of order in any event. Just think it was Kyrgios blowing off steam and venting more than it was trying to offend or manipulate his opponent.
LeafLover Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Trash talking in sports is rampant. Effective, it helps to psych yourself up and get into the head of the opponent to throw them off their game, but his remarks got personal and I don't think it's appropriate in the sport of tennis. Acceptable trash talking: American football linebacker telling the behemoth in front of him that if he can get pass him that he'll return the naked pictures he has of his wife. Rugby cracking yo mama jokes. Boxers or mma fighters telling their opponent "I'm going to make you my bit*h!" But tennis, golf, billiards, chess, ping pong etc............not so much.

Well said Rob! I appreciate your insight here mate. I concur with you in regard's to Nick's maturity and handling of public attention/scrutiny.
jimsta10 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 His image will not get any better unless he takes time off from the game, use the time wisely to work for charities and grow up. a few months on the side lines would do a world of good...He's definitely on par with Tomic.

Ken Gargett Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 i did like one comment in the media - "hey, at least dave warner now looks likeable".

Having the brother as a tour manager etc can't be helping. Maybe the brother needs to stay home in Canberra, and Mrs K joins Mr K on the road with Nick. There couldn't be too many things more humiliating than having your parents chaperone you around tour. Surely that will help him cope. I always used to look at Andy Murray and think "what did you do wrong to have your mum with you all the time". Then he got a hot girlfriend and my opinion changed. But then he started mentally falling apart on court and losing matches he could have won (Aussie Open final this year as an example). I think he needs his mum back.

shlomo Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 You guys are tough. It's a business and he's trying to get every advantage he can. Of course it's classless and crude, but if it comes down to an extra zero on a paycheck I bet most of you would go even further.
