Tennis: Sledging: Kyrgios............has Tennis finally got some colour?

Nick Kyrgios.......you have to be appalled at his recent behaviour....or has Tennis found a little bit of bad boy colour in sport of beige.

I have heard a lot of great sledges. Once when making my A grade debut for local rugby, the great Stan Pilecki looked at me before packing the first scrum of the game and said " mate, the 3rds played at 1pm". We packed the scrum, he gave me an uppercut, I saw stars and he casually said ...."welcome to A grade".

Nick Kygrios sledging took it to another level when playing Wawrinka.

"Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate,"

Seriously? If i was Warwrinka I would call a time out and go deck the ****.

No place in sport? A stain on the game? a little bit of colour in a game devoid of characters?

the other was when warnie was trying to stump ranatunga but he would not leave his crease.

healy suggested they put a mars bar on a length. that would get him out there.

another was when the aussies played zimbabwe. the polite version is -

mcgrath to eddo brandes who kept playing and missing and to whom mcgrath had been endlessly abusing for his perceived lack of ability. brandes was taking no notice.

mcgrath - "why are you so **extremely** fat?"

brandes, finally responding - "because every time i **bonk** your wife, she gives me a biscuit."

there was nothing clever or witty about what kygrios said.

for a bloke who has not won a tournament of any note (under 13s?), he might be advised to concentrate on playing. utter grub. embarrasses all aussies. i hope they ban him for a year - fat chance.

mind you, i reckon the bloke who'd be most miffed about it might be kakkanakis (sp?). talk about being outed by a mate.

Kygrios is going to have to pull his head in, otherwise it could spiral out of control for him.

Apparently the canadians booed him as he came out for his 3rd round match, which he lost. The controversies following him around will be cumulative and will take their toll, and he'll end up leaving the game as a 'coulda been champion'.

Somebody commenting on a Brisbane Times report said that the unbelievable way he played against Wawrinka, has been forgotten or not reported on at all. Nick has only got himself to blame for that. Social media and the internet will be around long after he's gone so he's going to have to adapt!

I agree with Coolio. Champion tennis players don't excuse their performances, especially when they perform poorly. Kygrios reminds me of Mark Philipousis. He sure seems headed towards a career like Mark's!

Funny story - The Scud popped up at the Hall of Fame champs in Newport in mid July, with a wildcard entry, but lost in the first round of the qualifying. Apparently he's playing in a knee brace. I'm not sure if he's trying for a comeback or some quick cash, or just having a hit!

I think Mark was a lot more professional, I actually felt sorry for him given his long line of injuries. Mark's only downfall was hooking up with Paris Hilton.....(personally I dont think so - LOL)

when you start comparing a young and yet to be successful tennis player with mike tyson then perhaps you've said it all.

as for the flip, could play some brilliant tennis on his day and came close to a couple of majors. lost to rafter and federer i think. but won us a couple of davis cups. all that said, some of the stories i have heard, which i simply could not put in writing, suggest he really was not very bright. i think that in the relationship with paris, she was the brains.

I concur Jim that Mark Philipousis was more professional. In my opinion, Nick Kyrgios' career could end up with the monniker 'unfulfilled potential champion' like Mark's career did, unless he learns to tone down and just concentrate on his tennis.

I don't think Kyrgios was saying that she was cheating on Wawrinka, the 'banging' took place before the girl and Stan got together. Kyrgios is an a-hole because he's continually overstepping the line and being a dickhead. He may turn it around and be noticed for his tennis. But that's up to him!

Just a few weeks ago in the Davis Cup here in Darwin, Kyrgios was on the court, representing Australia, loudly saying "i don't want to be here". One of the reasons why he's being shot down in the press over here.

I'm sure there's a 'change of ends' joke in there Rob, but I'm leaving it alone.

The positive to come out of this story I guess is that Kokkinakis' reputation has just skyrocketed in the mens locker room.

I only wished my mates would have done the same for me in my late teens (or early 20's..... who's counting?). It never has the same effect when you break your own 'loss of virginity' story!

tennis match, the aussie (i'm sad to say) has a track record of acting like a complete tosser. in the heat of the game, he announces to all listening that a mate of his "banged" the other bloke's girlfriend. who knows if it is true ort or happened in the past or just said to offend him, but it certainly was not one bloke helping out another. it was malicious in the extreme. he was immediately hit with a 10k fine, which was max, and might face further suspension.
