I have booked a little trip to Phuket Thailand Boxing day December 26 to Jan 3. We have to close the office anyway so a brief trip away. I have been to Phuket before but it was some 15 years ago. We are staying in central Phuket at a boutique hotel with a wine/cheese bar downstairs so we are sweet!

Di and I both enjoy the civil and "wilder" side of life. if you can, let us know the "don't miss" locations, bars, restaurants, experiences. And hell, if you are there during the week....let's catch up!

Cheers!

I'm heading off to Thailand (Koh Samui & Bangkok) for my 40th birthday celebration, but I'll be arriving just after you leave.

Phuket is a fantastic spot for a get away whether with the family or for a get away with he boys!

The main drag has all the bars and nigh life covered and you can just hop from one bar to the next until you find a bar you like the look of.

Hi Rob,

Phuket is an amazing place. Locals and food are absolutely fabulous. their will be plenty of brocures at your hotel to site see the islands. I'll recommend the island visit...

The local tom yum is amazing...plenty of places do sell. also try the crape and nutella on the street at night..bloody amazing too.

Catch a boat ride to Ko Phi Phi and hang out there for a few days. Absolutely stunning views!

Well, I can't say i have any recent info since the last time I was there was during my honeymoon around 10 years ago.

Have to say, it was lively is an understatement since my wife and I were caught up with the tsunami incident during that time.

I am assuming that Central Phuket is Phuket town. My impression during the time I was there was the people is nicer at Phuket Town, since there is less tourist traps. They don't force the hard sell on you. Everything is also cheaper then the more popular tourist spots.

I hated the island's nightlife at Patong, it just felt very wrong and sleazy.

Phi Phi Island is a must, just to laze around if nothing else. Clear blue waters.

Di will like the one very popular theatrical show - Phuket Fantasea Show. It is a heavy staged dancing and theatrical production which all tourist tours go to. My wife liked it. I fell asleep. I can't say I don't like it because it finishes late and the lack of taxi available to service the huge number of guests going back to their hotels, this ultimate meant that we slept in and escaped most of the destruction the next day.

As mentioned before, do eat the banana roti with condensed milk as a late night snack.
I can tell you more the next time we catch-up

The first time I saw the word Phuket on a T shirt I thought it was a smart ass way to spell Fu ## it.

As in, oh Phuket, I left my wallet on the bus.

My 26 year old Son is there right now. Sent home some stunning photos. He was in the Northern part of and then flew to the South. Spent some time with a a couple of tigers as well as a Elephant refuge in the northern Parts.

Patong is truly disgusting. The rest is fantastic!
