So Robs idea of a throwback got me looking for something I hadn't smoked in a while, and there under some boxes at the back I found a cardboard box with the Cohiba sticker on it.

Opened it up and found 8 of a box of Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios from DIC 11 that i'd forgotten about.

Had a busy Saturday checking out wedding venues (exactly as much fun as it sounds, who knew that the perfect place might be 200kms away from where we live) so decided this might just hit the spot.

Construction on the stick was amazing, nice dark wrapper and good draw pre light with a kind of nuts and cocoa (not quite nutella but not far off it). Toasted the foot with a match and then used a V cutter to open it up and finish lighting it.

First third was amazing, smooth even burn with tight ash that held on and flavours of smooth milk chocolate coffee and nuts (almond is the closest i suppose).

Second third and it started really opening up into a flavoubomb. Started getting hints of honey/caramel with currants and toasted nuts. Ash was still strong and burn perfectly smooth.

Luckily the band was loose so decided to take it off as I knew this was going to be a cigar I would nub. Leather and Pepper started to creep in with the nuts and a coffee flavours coming through. This cigar was getting better the lower I got and it turned into a real finger burner that was hard to drop at the end.

I honestly can't remember whether I was so impressed with the first 2 of these I smoked when I got them that I decided to hide the box on myself or whether I just simply forgot it was there but it really paid off as they're smoking amazing. While the fiance is busy compiling all kinds of lists for the wedding I'm coming up with my own cigar list (for rehearsal dinner, night before wedding and all important wedding day smoke) and this has firmly placed itself on that list!

I'd be hard pressed to say anything bad about this cigar really. Definitiely a 90-95/100 for me.

Good review, I've got a box of those untouched at the moment, but that may change after reading the above.

Good luck when the big day comes around too, you know your just a passenger on this ride. Go with the flow, smile at strangers and step out frequently for 'cigar time' and you'll come through.

Picked up a box of these recently. And like most of the stuff I'm buying, it's destined to sit for a fair while. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the great review and reminder. I have half a dozen of these from a box of 10 dated Mar 12 that haven't been touched in a couple years. They were pretty good then, but I am hopeful that they have progressed to the level you described.

I'm under no illusions of my place on the day, I'm somewhere between the dress and the shoes in the order of things she needs for the day, although I do get a small speaking part in the church and at the reception ?

Dara a great reminder of how good Genios can be. It is not always the case but when they are on....they are a unique, flavour filled cigar.
