Habana Mike Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I was doing my occasional jar check and noticed some fine white fuzz along the top of the cedar inserts and inside rim of one of my Partagas jars. No trace on the cigars themselves. Pulled all the sticks out and put them in a bag. Left the jar and cedar sheets out for a while and thought there must be a way to eliminate the mold so I grabbed a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe and lightly rubbed the cedar and the inside of the jar. Leaving them to sit out for a while longer so any bleach aromas dissipate. Hoping this gets rid of the problem.
LLC Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Hopefully that works for you Mike. I normally see white mold on tubos after an extended period and usually just brush it off and put them back away.

soutso Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 What humidification do you have in the jar? Is it a sponge? If so try to replace the sponge with beads.
Habana Mike Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 What humidification do you have in the jar? Is it a sponge? If so try to replace the sponge with beads. No humidification. I keep it in a humidified container with a few other jars. I acclimatize all the jars to 68%Rh inside prior to sealing them and storing them. Don't figure any real issues with the jar as I wiped out the porcelain, also just rubbed the wipe along the top edge of the cedar where the mold was. No apparent smell at all, then or after a day or so. Figured if I didn't disinfect the mold would soon return....
... Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Mold dies pretty quick in direct sunlight (or under UV) so no need for any bleach
JackFNQ Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 In the yacht I used a mixture of cloves oil and eucalyptus oil with water and spray around, and couldn't believe how good it worked, even as a preventative - but totally inappropriate in this application. Vinegar is the softer option. Apple cider vinegar probably even better. UV from sunlight can kill some types of mold. In the tropics its all about temperature and humidity.
El Presidente Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Tissue wipe and sunlight. Works a treat for jars, humidors etal.
Habana Mike Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Duly noted all. Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps overreacted as I really did not want to see that mystical furry white plume all over these!
lostsoulcamero Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 A few hrs in direct sun light should kill what ever it is
