Coolio Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Australia's top wanker Bernard Tomic let loose in the press conference after his match against Djokovic last night. I would love if he never plays Davis Cup for Australia again, but i doubt that will be the case. I've met this dickhead at a Tennis Qld function when he was 14. Even with the latitude you give young kids, you really wanted to punch him in the head then. He hasn't changed, and unfortunately the apple didn't fall very far at all from the tree with Bernard. http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/tennis/bernard-tomic-slams-pat-rafter-tennis-australia/story-fnii0pkt-1227427898488 Oh and by the way Bernard, you lost in straight sets last night, 6/3 6/3 6/3. So how about you concentrate on playing tennis instead of slamming the organisation that supported you when nobody knew who you were and you needed funding? Is it uniquely Australian to want your sports heroes to be decent people? Are we weird to want that? 3
JohnS Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Is it uniquely Australian to want your sports heroes to be decent people? Are we weird to want that? Short answer...no. Long answer, sadly these personality types thrive on this attention. What frustrates the recipients of their rants is their inability to communicate and subsequently quell conflicts. I've come to learn as I get older that there is an art to these things. If you can resolve conflicts and make your relationships stronger, whether their personal, social or work-based, that is a tremendous quality in you. Sadly, Bernard lacks this quality and he may well realise this when his short tennis career is soon over. 1
Coolio Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 I just wonder what's wrong with tennis Australia fostering all these brats? It's not just Tomic, that other guy Kokkanakis or whatever his name is seems just as bad. Kyrgios is next in line for Bernard's crown. Kokkinakis appears to be sensible! Kyrgios seems to have good parents so there's hope for him yet. And he hasn't plumbed the depths that Bernard has yet.
Ken Gargett Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 kyrgios going close. abuse the umps the way he has at wimbledon and he should have been kicked out on the spot. totally unacceptable. tomic interesting. we saw this crap from his dad and now him. agree with pretty much everything in the first post except a good mate of mine coached him quite a bit as a kid. said he was a lovely kid and could have been anything. the problem right back then was his imbecilic father. made it impossible. drove coaches away, drove supporters and sponsors away. has near destroyed his son's career. understand the kid sticking up for his dad but such a shame he didn't twig to how damaging his father is. now he has become the mirror image. whahhhh. i had to pay for my tennis balls. seriously? drive around in a ferrari after squillions wasted on you and your development and your gratitude is that crap. if he is not careful, he will become our most unpopular sportsman. he is fortunate that mundine is still around. as for the aussie aspect, it is there but i'm sure it is near as bad at least in most places. we don't hear about it. aussie kid caries on like tosser tomic and it is news. pommy kid or spanish or french or american or whoever does it. no one here cares.
Habana Mike Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Believe me, plenty of American "sportsmen" that are as bad or worse. Too much entitlement and leeway growing up....
Hunter1974 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Short answer...no. Long answer, sadly these personality types thrive on this attention. Humility is a dying trait in our youth! 1
stigmata Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I'm not sure why he's a wanker! It's like every sportsman needs to agree with what we want then to be Their just sportspeople
stigmata Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 We have an idiot prime minister.. More attention should be thrust on him than some guy with a tennis racquet. Just goes to show how people think these days and how the media works
JohnS Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Yes, sad to see Ryan Harris retire due to his tennis injury. On the other hand, Bernard Tomic has just been dumped from the next Davis Cup tie by Tennis Australia... http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/tennis-australia-dump-bernard-tomic-from-davis-cup-team-after-disrespectful-behaviour/story-fndkzym4-1227428974018

Coolio Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 I'm not sure why he's a wanker! It's like every sportsman needs to agree with what we want then to be Their just sportspeople Maybe I was a little too conservative with my opinion of him. He's a dickhead. He really is. I don't consider him just a sportsman when our tax dollars put hundreds of thousands into him when he was a junior and up until this summer, we still were. So I actually consider him an employee of mine. And for that I expect him to represent me and my country with a bit of humility and respect. He can be aggressive on court as much as he needs, but when you're off court and using the media to slag off at the hand that fed you, then you're a dickhead. His father has been driving him in this direction for years. Remember his father is the same bloke that pulled him off court mid match in the juniors, on more than one occasion, because he was upset with the umpiring. His father also abused other players during matches. On more than one occaison. His father ran a national coach and a junior player off the road in a road rage incident after a tournament once. And of course his father also broke the nose of his sons practice partner a couple of years ago, over a wages issue. You cant choose your parents, but you don't have to be like them. If tennis were a team sport (Davis Cup etc excepted), Tomic would have been cast aside long ago. Hopefully this mornings axing is permanent until he publicly apologises and changes his attitude. 2
Coolio Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 We have an idiot prime minister.. More attention should be thrust on him than some guy with a tennis racquet. Just goes to show how people think these days and how the media works The front pages of the paper are full of politics. This is a back pages issue. Should we let sportspeople do and say their own thing on an international stage, via normal media and social media, without being able to comment? This will be over in two days time. Tony Abbott will still be PM! 1
Ken Gargett Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 We have an idiot prime minister.. More attention should be thrust on him than some guy with a tennis racquet. Just goes to show how people think these days and how the media works seriously? a story/thread on tennis and you start with a comment on the prime minister. stick it where it belongs and you can take that however you wish. if you are not interested in a thread on tennis there is nothing preventing you from staying out if it. or is there some reason others can't discuss what interests them? i accept that there are topics to which that might not apply but i can't see tennis is one. for what it is worth, he would not be my first, second, third or pretty much any choice but he'd still rank a long way ahead of the two morons we've just had and the current leader of the opposition.
El Presidente Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I'm not sure why he's a wanker! It's like every sportsman needs to agree with what we want then to be Their just sportspeople Apparently million dollar sportsmen who want to remain on the coin of Tennis Australia. If I were making a couple of million a year, I am happy to pay for my own balls and court time. Tomic...Grow up...piss off. If Tomic is making comments on his own coin...no problem how insane they are. You live and die on your results and your reputation. Right now he is none for two. 3

Yet, we get to vote them out. Talented Aussie Tennis players are few and far between. They don't affect my life...unless I am sponsoring them through taxes to Tennis Australia. Cut them loose.

Cut them loose. you do have to wonder about a bloke taking on pat rafter in a PR war. not many aussies more respected and loved than rafter, at least within australia. not many more disliked than tomic (come on down, anthony mundine). meanwhile a bloke seen as squandering his talent, seen as the most self-entitled little grub imaginable (okay, line ball with james o'connor), a bloke who drives a ferrari and who then whinges that the police have it in for him because he gets speeding fines, a bloke who has been funded all his life so he can create a career which could bring him millions, throws a wobbly because he had to buy his own tennis balls. if you watch that extraordinary rant, he is delusional. it is totally me, me, me. poor me. they don't respect me (guess why). no one loves me (again, take a wild guess why). they don't want to keep giving me money (ditto). good on them for tossing him out of the davis cup.

Yeap Ken, he's basically slandered Rafter, a guy that won 2 majors, and won the ATP Stefan Edberg Fair Play award 4 times. If the ATP created an award for biggest dickhead on tour, they may as well get the next dozen trophies engraved with Tomic's name now. In fact, they may as well name the Award after him while they're at it. I'll never forget the TQ dinner I was at about 8 years ago, when Tomic won the award for junior player of the year or something. Craig Tiley was running TQ that year, and presented him with the trophy, and a nice cheque from memory. Not that he needed it, as he'd already been signed by Nike. This is the same guy he teed off on in his post match delusional dribble fest. That same TQ dinner I met Clem Jones (who died not long after) and Pat Rafter's sister Louise. Clem Jones left millions in his will for medical research. Louise was there raising money for Pat's now defunct kids charity. If Tomic wants to be respected, I'd suggest to him he do something charitable.
stigmata Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Why do tax payers pay for tennis players? Who gives a poo about Australian tennis They don't play for Australia they play for themselves Davis cup is just contrived Nobody really cares about it People don't go to the tennis to support their nation. That's just stupidity. It's an individual sport when it's all said and done. Only in Australia do people think it's really a national game And pat rafer the guy that's a Bermuda resident to not lost taxes in Australia? Really? He's an Aussie sacred cow? Bully to pat!

El Presidente Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I wouldn't be paying taxes here if I didn't have to either I could certainly do 6 months a year in Bermuda/Monaco/Panama and 6 months in Oz!

Bully to pat! well good morning sunshine! you might well be the person on this planet most annoyed by the sport of tennis. can't imagine why the innocuous sport of tennis could bother anyone so much. you can't be john tomic. he is much more polite (did tennis australia withhold your funding?). more seriously, a few points in response and in saying this, no idea if you are based here or elsewhere (if elsewhere, makes it even odder you'd get so irate about this but each to his own). also, i come from a family that was heavily involved in tennis for many years. i was never much good and am far less interested in it these days but i was quite keen when younger. as in a great many countries, money is allocated to various sports. whether this be in providing facilities or assisting training or paying for events or paying young talent. tennis is part of that - if womens' beach volleyball gets a handout, would seem hard to deny tennis. as for who gives "a poo", channel 7 here pays a fortune to get the coverage of tennis around the world. as happens in other countries. they would n ot do that if they did not have a massive audience. a lot of people love the game and enjoy watching it. i have a mate who has taken his family to wimbledon. others always attend the australian open. davis cup aside, absolutely correct that they play for themselves but fans of any game will get behind the teams or sportsmen of their choice. not always rational. but it is only natural to support players - be it golf or tennis or whatever - from your own country. this is no different. davis cup is most certainly not contrived. and many people do care. to suggest otherwise is simply not true. you may not - and fair enough - but many do. i would suggest the stupidity is in thinking otherwise. it might not be as important as it once was but a lot of people still follow it. it used to be huge and there was nothing contrived at all. i am just old enough to remember when professionals were first allowed to play and there was a final between the states and us - the two nations with the longest and proudest histories in the davis cup competition. it was massive. huge ratings, here and there. it was played in the states and special arrangements were made to televise it here - very rare in those days. behind ali-frazier, it was probably the most hyped international sporting event of that era. for the record, the aussies were so strong with guys like laver, rosewall, newcombe - all desperate to play for their country. that probably helped. interesting that you say "a national game", not "the national game". the latter i would agree with, but the former - clearly wrong. it is a national game, here and in many countries. i do not know any country where it is "the national game" but so so many where it is a national game. as for rafter, he is highly regarded for his ability, for the way he conducted himself on court and off, for his sportsmanship, for his charity work and for being an all-round nice guy. and i agree with rob, why the hell pay more taxes than you have to. do you? 3
WarriorPrincess Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 All I can say that I totally agree with you Dave (coolio) Tomic is an absolute idiot and better we see the last of him and his family. The day he pulls his head out from his behind will be the day he realises he is not respected in anyway by most Australians. There is enough "brats" in most sports these days so one less is no loss 1
