CaptainQuintero Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Cuba has successfully eliminated mother to child transmission of both HIV and Syphilis, the World Health Organisation says. The head of the WHO, Dr Margaret Chan, called it one of the greatest public health achievements possible. It follows years of efforts to give pregnant women early access to prenatal care, testing and drugs to stop these diseases passing from Mother to child. The WHO hopes other countries will be able to achieve the same. -BBC 2
LordAnubis Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Wow! I can't believe the amount of medical advances they are making while the rest of world with their resources and education are lacking behind. Great stuff Cuba!!
oliverdst Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Someone could enlight me and say how they achieve this kind of medical advances without money? Or they have money? 1
CUBANO Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Sorry but i'm skeptical about that news. Last month my cousin sent us an email that my aunt broke her hip and couldn't get operated because they(Cuban Hospital) did not have the right surgical table.
wabashcr Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 They've also managed a cure for certain types of lung cancer, from what I understand. Cuban medicine really is a marvel.
TCContender Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 They've also managed a cure for certain types of lung cancer, from what I understand. Cuban medicine really is a marvel. From what I understand, only North Korea tops them. Of course, all of the advances in modern medicine have been made by Kim Jong Un.... 1
oliverdst Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 So you are saying WHO is supporting Cuba? Really?!
Foz Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Someone could enlight me and say how they achieve this kind of medical advances without money? Or they have money? From my understanding, this news isn't announcement of a cure or vaccine, it's just an initiative that the Cuban government undertook to increase prenatal care and testing for pregnant women and their partners. As well as providing antiretroviral drugs, which dramatically reduces mother to child transmission of those diseases, they have made this achievement. Any country is capable of acheiving this when they do what Cuba did. Still, interesting news out of Cuba and good that it's actually endorsed by the WHO.

CaptainQuintero Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 It's a bit sad when political views get in the way of the easing of human suffering, especially with newborns. 1
