El Presidente Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 What a three day bender. i will post a little bit each day as so much has gone on! The gala dinner was last night and there was no change to the finishing time as Stuart Fox and I were back at our hotel 4am. I was the lucky one as I went to bed. Foxy jumped in a taxi (straight from the bar) for the 90 minute drive to the airport as he had to fly out We started the day hung over from the previous nights shenanigans (more later) but had a commitment for a mid morning start of the AMICIGAR Slow Smoke World Championship. Marko Bilic, president and founder of the CSWC World Championship which is a global competition (NY next week) with the final to take place on the first weekend of September in Split/Croatia. Marko is a gem of a bloke. I have met him for the first time on this trip he proved to be an "inspirational" trouble maker who fit in perfectly with the rest of the crew! The CSWC World Championship is serious business with serious rules. You are given a Mareva with the bands re-applied to mm precision. You have 2 matches. You cannot re-light the cigar. You cannot talk for the first 5 minutes of the competition. There are penalty points deducted if the ash falls off in the first 20 minutes. There are 4 judges walking around to ensure no cheating. You are a registered competitor with a number/rules sheet etal. The cigar can be in your mouth or in your hand but if it is rested on the table you are disqualified. There are more rules but those are the major ones. The setting? brilliant The room...sensational Peter Dansky and myself getting our "game faces" on i was out early after a serious bout of boredom. I managed to knock over a jug of water in my excitement of leaving the table. Boooo's all around. Pete on the other hand hung in. Great shot! The world record is just over 2 and a half hours for a mareva. The Croatian winner of this event went 1 hr 38 and he gets into the final at the end of the year. Great fun....more to come 4
JohnS Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Yeah...Rule 4 Rob, no talking for 5 minutes. Seriously, that needs to be changed if you enter the competition again! How did Peter end up?
El Presidente Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Yeah...Rule 4 Rob, no talking for 5 minutes. Seriously, that needs to be changed if you enter the competition again! How did Peter end up? Peter went really well just over the hour mark from memory. Seriously top bloke. Such a shame most can't be put in print.
Colt45 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Completely off topic, but does anyone else think RA has a passing resemblance to Aidan Mcardle (Lord Loxley on Mr. Selfridge) ? 3
oliverdst Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 There should be an online live all over the world FOH competition.
El Presidente Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 There should be an online live all over the world FOH competition. Marko is dead set keen to run a round in Australia and the US for FOH members in 2016. Much more fun than I thought it would be and much of that is due to Marko himself. If you have a real competitive spirit and love cigars...right up your alley.
El Presidente Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Rob, what exactly was the mareva you smoked? It wasn't disclosed as far as I am aware. Pretty sure a Monte 4. It was actually an excellent cigar.
willzbar Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Damn, I should do this. I'm slow as hell smoking a cigar.
Drguano Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 It was a Monte 4 and a tasty one as well. I think the box code was LEG 14 something. We wll need to recover the Flight Data Recorder in order to piece together the entire story of the weekend. What great crowd of people. The AmiCigar crew is a boisterous lot and cheered everything. I got a standing ovation for shatterinqqg a beer glass at 3 am somewhere between a pickup football game between assorted Amici and the bar staff and a commando swim by a certain Irishman. 1
JohnS Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Good on you Peter and Rob for partaking in this event. It's one of those unique life experiences you simply can't replicate!
Ryan Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Great pictures! It's time the irish stop ruining these events. It's reflects badly. It's 4 am here in Valderrama. I have a bed set up in a cinema and I can't sleep due to Stuart Fox's snoring.
Drguano Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 4:00 am? I have never seen Stuart Fox retire that early. Must be an imposter.
