El Presidente Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Most of us have them. That cigar that is your nemesis ....or simply that box (or boxes) of cigars that you detested from the sampling you did....and then you put it/them into the dark recesses of your humidor for a long nap....or to hand out to the poker night moochers or the next bucs party It is time to pull them out and review Over the next 12 days do a review of this/these cigars. It must be a cigar that you have seriously disliked. Please give a brief background of the cigar and the reasoning for your previous assessment. Start a new thread for each review. Use the title format as (example): Montecristo Open Eagle USE NOV 13 : Rancid Review Week Please do a full review with a a couple of photos. Keep an open (excuse the pun!) mind! If it is good, call it good. If not, let us know why. Each review posted until Sunday Evening the 24th of May goes into the draw for a Bushido Single. I will also be doing a few reviews of cigars that have been my nemesis Looking forward to the reviews! Rob
Jones Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Rob, I would love to see you do a review of 2014 monte petite #2, maybe they have improved like RYJ? 1
Popular Post polarbear Posted May 11, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2015 Do they have to be Cuban Cigars? My list of crap NC's is way longer than my list of Crap CCs 6
GasGuy82 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Do they have to be Cuban Cigars? My list of crap NC's is way longer than my list of Crap CCs Exactly, there is a special level of hell reserved in my wineador for the 3 remaining San Lotano cigars I got in a 5 pack sampler 1
polarbear Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Preferably Cuban! Looks like I'll be digging deeper than I thought
El Presidente Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Looks like I'll be digging deeper than I thought If you can't find a Rancid CC in your collection then a NC will do
daeji5 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 sounds like we're going to be a reading a Monte petit 2 review from the Prez.
Scott08 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I don't have any rancid CC's and I gave all those nasty NC's that I had collected to my son an couple years ago so I guess I'm out on this one. lol Maybe I can smoke one rott. Will that work? The last time I did that I regretted it for sure. 1
earthson Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Lets see.... which General Cigar release of a Dominican with a Cuban namesake should it be?...
maxcjs0101 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Not a review but I had a Quintero Favoritos last night from March 2014 and it was ok in the beginning but terribly harsh once i reached the last 3rd.
santela Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I do have some Short Churchills in my humidor that makes me wanna give up on this hobby every time I smoke one...
manelson05 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 14' monti petit 2, flat brown colored wrapper, even wrap with good construction, smelled better cold, earth and leather sort of smell, better than I remembered. However an inch into it pretty obvious not much had changed, not a Quintero robusto type level but not much better. These are destined to fall fly fishing in the rivers, not a huge loss should it fall in the , great smoke for my occasional free loaders.
cooper669 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 After seeing everyone raving about them, I picked up a 5er of the Upmann half coronas. Absolutely disgusting, it's like chewing on a bar of soap. After smoking 3 I don't think I've made it past the 1/2" mark on any before I tossed them. I think I know why they were up for sale. If some PSP or HQ show up here I might give 'em another go but I probably will toss the other 2, I don't think I could handle another like the last 3. 1
KoreanCowboy Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 The Upmann half corona was a dog **** for me too until I bought an HQ box and let them sit for a year. Holy crap did they ever change in a year. Now I wish I had let them sit for 2 but that year did wonders on them.
ck475 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Not that it was really rancid to begin with but I had some uninteresting MUR Oct 13' RASS that really turned a corner after I came back to them about 8 months after my last. This last one coated my pallet with a wonderful leathery/cappuccino like flavor that really grabbed my attention. Chris
noreaster Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I can second the RASS...working through a cab of ULA Dic 13 which were simply terrible when I got them, but was pleasantly surprised with the last one I had...hoping they continue to improve..
Fireant Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I smoked an old Troya tubo that was given to me that I swear tasted like salted fish. Never again...
stogieluver Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I'm sure there are some CC dogs out there, but I think sometimes the cigar gets blamed for being bad when it really should be the conditions in which the cigar is being smoked. Good example is I'm out of town this weekend. When home, I smoke all my cigars indoors in a centrally cooled/heated house. I'v had to smoke outside this weekend in 85 dF temps and about 85% rh conditions under a ceiling fan that my host's wife insists on running. All three cigars I have smoked were not nearly as good as the same ones I recently smoked in my man cave. In fact, a RASS I smoked yesterday was horrible. I think there's no coincidence that it was the larger of the three I've smoked so far. The rh and wind from the fan killed it. Temp, rh, and wind all have a strong negative effect on the enjoyment of a cigar, imho. 2

Flavor, aroma and burn is never as good vs a still night.

Same box code on a 50 cab that are smoking excellent, very surprised being so young. Will definitely get another cab so when these are gone will have some with another 12 months on them.
