Popular Post Orion21 Posted May 10, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2015 For whatever reason Cohiba and I never really got along, that was until recently. For the last 5 years I have tried almost every Marca Cuba has to offer. I've had many good to great cigars, but Cohiba never lived up to the hype. Maybe it was the premium price, but I never invested in boxes. I traded for singles or sampled out of generous BOTLs stashes, but was never overly impressed. Frustrated, and admittedly ill informed, I wrote off Cohiba as a status brand. However, that didn't stop me from jumping at the chance to buy a box of 2010 Siglo III, 2008 Robusto and a hyped box of 2012 BTO Siglo VI over the last couple of years. Gun shy, I let them sit for over a year and a half without touching them. That changed within the last 6 months. First it was the Siglo III that I dared to sample. Figuring they were the magic 5 years of box age I tried my first. It was pretty good! The second, third, fourth...all were better and better. The 2008 Robustos? Amazing is a word that comes to mind, but the "ah ha" moment came later. Those of you that were around within the last couple of years may remember the run of exceptional BTO coded Cohiba that Rob swore were some of the best Cohiba he had ever seen. I bit on the hype and bought a cab of Siglo VI. Holy shite! I'm smoking my 5th out of the cab as I type and I get it now. Cohiba is just different. Refined in so many ways. Its' smooth, sweet, grassy, espresso cream profile is just fulfilling. My brain is saying "wow," my heart is happy and most importantly I feel a sense of bliss. This is what a cigar is supposed to provide. Be it alone, with friends or just a group of likeminded people this experience is what it's all about! I get it now! 12
spirit Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Reading this I'm both happy for you and happy for me that I have a couple of the fabled BTO 2012 boxes, 2 of the Siggy 6's and similarly untouched box of BHK 54's... I had a very fresh CoRo on Weds evening this week, one of the new Tubos version and thought it was very good indeed. Probably better at this early stage than my box of '09 CoRo's. I'd love to land an exceptional box of Siglo II's and Esplendidos!
santela Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I haven't "got" Cohiba yet, and I hope I never do. Can't afford them as regular smokes. 2
JohnS Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'm really pleased for you Orion as the Cohiba (grass, cream, honey), and Montecristo (cocoa, espresso, nut) profiles are what I tend to gravitate to. Although my inventory is small in comparison to other members here (perhaps less than 100 cigars), Cohiba makes up 1/3 of my inventory and with Montecristo that would be about 1/2. The only lament I have in regards to Cohiba is the current cutback in quality stock, so the both of us should enjoy quality Cohiba while we can!
aliz388 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Stunning stunning smoke! So hard to try and age them a bit and not blaze through the entire box.
Mr Cholmondley Warner Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Broke out a Cohiba Piramides Extra tubos from a recent 24:24.....it was fantastic and lived up to expectation. Now to resist the temptation of firing them up before my holiday.
galtline Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Cigars are like wine and art... After a certain price you are just flushing money down the drain..... To me 12 buck per cigar is max... 1
Squarehead Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Aaron,I'm happy for you and many more good smokes to come.
FLB03TT Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I always view a Cohiba as a treat. I enjoy both the Siglo and Classic lines. 9.5 out of 10 are perfection to in terms of appearance and burn. They all are a medium bodied, classy smoke, with a subtle complexity and consistently nuanced flavor notes which always seem to come together for a deeply rewarding smoking experience. I guess you could say I get it.

MrGTO Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Just smoke a pyramid extra the night before my 3rd kid was born. I am impressed! I have a box of CoRo resting now and I can't wait to try one out in a couple months. Is there any certain vitola that I should try besides the CoRo or PE that really hits the mark on the Cohiba flavor?

The Cohiba Robusto Supremo EL 2014 has had very positive reviews but unfortunately the pricepoint would prevent it been a 'go to' smoke. From my experience, I've really enjoyed some of the skinnier vitolas aged and rested, such as the Lanceros and Exquisidos. I've just recently had to 'jump the gun' on the recent 24:24 when the Cohiba Siglo II's came up. I think that this, or a Siglo I won't disappoint.
