Intense and full bodied like most GC ports. 1980 is an under the radar vintage with a lot of value. Overshadowed by '83 and '85 but should not be overlooked. Hoping to get into it more tonight (Saturday). always liked taylors 80. 1

Congrats on the mitzvah of your wedding anniversary. There is something special about Champagne into a snow mound. It's fun to leave Champagne sitting outside to cool down! 1

Mind you, I may be slightly biased as I am a big fan of Port. The nose is formidable. Red fruits, orange zest, oak and subtle nuttiness. Creamy mouthfeel which is also really nice. Would be quite exceptional if the finish was a little longer. The Port casks influence does not take away from the actual Whiskey. Well integrated. As a fan of their Iberian Series, I am glad that I went three bottles deep on this release. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the review and comments. I don't plan on opening my bottle anytime soon, but I may try to pick up another one based on your comments.

SirVantes Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 While I’m a Barolo devotee, I am open to exploring other Nebbiolos. Just like FOHers exploring NCs - and for similar reasons…the prices of our favourites are becoming painful! 4

I had a Mexican Nebbiolo a few weeks that was pretty darn good. I thought it was more to a Merlot tasting wine but got hints of Nebbiolo in it too. Was my first Mexican wine and had been curious to try some wine from Mexico for some time.

If it tasted like Merlot, which is a lower tannin grape, it sounds like a very "modernist" style of Nebbiolo, which is not what I look for. Kneejerk reaction to Mexico would be "too hot for Nebbiolo" but of course that's a gross oversimplification that ignores elevation, exposure, microclimate, geology. 1

Mascarello a real fave. visited there last year. wonderful. big fan of Rieussec as well. visited there a million years ago. it was a little more less the developed sauternes star at the time. i got bailed up by a dog the same size as a rhino. had a paw on each shoulder and more teeth than a great white about two inches from my face. i did not move a muscle until assistance arrived. 1
