ogus Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I am looking for a health care co-op medishare option where I don't have to vow to give up cigars. Any suggestions? Any alternatives? We are in the Republic of America.

forgop Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 At my hospital, we declare smoker or non-smoker. Smokers pay $50 more every 2 weeks. Non-smokers are subject to random rests. If caught, you back pay the entire selection year to date. Includes cigs, cigars, chew, gum, patches, vaping, whole 9 yards.

forgop Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 How do they randomly test this? They have some sort of "lottery" for nicotine and drug screens. Some have been tested multiple times, others not at all. Not sure how frequently or how many, but it's how they do it.
Jones Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 It seems the penalty is the exact same thing as declaring your use at the beginning of the year? Why wouldn't you take your chances and worst case scenario you pay what you would have had to pay any way?
ogus Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 they can't penalize what I don't already overpay in taxes

Why wouldn't you take your chances and worst case scenario you pay what you would have had to pay any way?One of the threats is they'll drop your coverage, but given the fact that employers here in the states must provide insurance now, that threat isn't very real. What will really happen is you'll be forced to cough up $50 per pay period in the current election year and the rest of the year. By declaring you are a smoker, it's essentially a $1300/year tax.
Walt69 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 When i was still at the hospital we had 3 tiers of coverage at different rates. We could qualify for "reductions" in our monthly payments by submitting a test for BP, tobacco, cholesterol/lipids, etc... and each one would knock off a certain amount of your payment each month if you passed it.

I don't have nor do I want coverage. I am a doctor, trust me I would rather have health OPE. Since the Politburo says I must buy, I want to buy into a co-op/medishare paln but you can't even sniff a cigar or pipe.
Scroats Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 All I can say is that I was hoping for change, but all I got was more of the same and the threat of extra taxes if I don't continue what I have. Terrible.
Habana Mike Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 All I got was higher premiums. Who's this supposed to be affordable for anyway? 1
teamrandr Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Dangit why does smoking have to have serious health consequences
forgop Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 All I got was higher premiums. Who's this supposed to be affordable for anyway?Affordable for those who receive far more subsidies than people who are middle class or above.
