An example of what the dinghy might have looked like

Police officers discovered the 22-year-old in a shipyard in Brittany, northern France, giving the dinghy mouth to mouth and heart massage.

The would-be-hero believed that the dinghy was a dying person, as reported by The Telegraph, and had even called the emergency services asking for an ambulance to rush to the scene.

He told officers that the “victim” was not responding and needed to be saved, adding that he had been carrying out cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive him.

“He was underneath a boat, on his knees, trying to resuscitate a rubber dinghy,” police told Le Télégramme de Brest newspaper.

Police took the lifesaver into custody and, after he was examined by a doctor, placed him overnight in a drunk cell.

"The Police were there in response to reports that a drunken man was attempting to have sex with an inflatable boat.

Apparently the man was confused, thinking he had caused his "partner" to have a coronary".
