JohnS Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Enjoyable watching the swans get owned tonight in the first quarter.. And every other quarter! An 89 point win is a shellacking!
westg Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Great win today by the eagles ...A case of good prevailing over evil...That hit by Silvagni on Cripps 70m of the ball is about as average as you can get ..He is looking at an extended holiday from the game A very enjoyable way to finish off the weekend 2
Anth87 Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Any other Doggies supporters here? Pretty good ending to the regular season last few games have been fantastic!
westg Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Any other Doggies supporters here? Pretty good ending to the regular season last few games have been fantastic! Dogs are looking good exciting times in the kennel
muzz Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Any other Doggies supporters here? Pretty good ending to the regular season last few games have been fantastic! Will be a cracking game next weekend with the Eagles and Dogs both looking the goods...Eagles by 2 goals 1
Bill Hayes Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 This weekend's results seem to point to a severe lack of games being played at the MCG in September. Two WA sides holding the cards with home games most probably then Sydney or Dogs maybe 4th and 5th means home games in Sydney and at Etihad. If the Hawks beat the Eagles in Perth in the first week then the next final will be in Perth but the prelim at the MCG. The other way around and the semi will be in Perth and the prelim at the MCG I think. Hoping my Tigers can finish ahead of North. They may have to play each other two weeks in a row at Etihad in the last round then in the first final which home ground will be most probably determined from the result of the last round of games. It's going to be interesting.

If you have ever been to an eagles game you would understand what I mean 1
Coolio Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Any other Doggies supporters here? Pretty good ending to the regular season last few games have been fantastic! I don't particularly like the Doggies but it is good to see them playing the way they are, and giving Bob Murphy a sniff at some GF action! Beveridge is doing something right that's for sure!
jimsta10 Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Sad news on about Ratt's son. Circumstances aside, guttered for him and his family. Im a mad Blues supporter, wanted him to stay and coach, however our circus in which we call our board has influenced and made many bad decisions...one of them was letting Ratts go...
Duxnutz Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Hird finally quits....... Or pushed. Not an Essendon fan but surely this would have been a better move a season or two ago?
JohnS Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Hird finally quits....... Or pushed. Not an Essendon fan but surely this would have been a better move a season or two ago? Yes...strange that he was fully supported during the Danks controversy and now he falls on his sword.

Im a mad Blues supporter, wanted him to stay and coach, however our circus in which we call our board has influenced and made many bad decisions...one of them was letting Ratts go... Definitely...very sad for Brett Ratten and his family. In regards to his stint at Carlton, Robert Walls wrote a prophetic article predicting that Mick Malthouse would perform worse than Ratten as coach and that Carlton should have retained Ratten as coach as he was starting to build a legacy. How right Robert Walls was.
westg Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Terribly sad for him... and Bolton who is the other assistant at the Hawks appears to be the front runner for the Carlton job . I think they should of kept Rats at Carlton was an ugly three years with Mick .. Two power house clubs with coaching dilemma's hard to even imagine really........ Carlton and Essendon that is .
JohnS Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I think you've summed it up well, West. Clubs like Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon I think have a little more pressure from their support base because of their historic success. It takes time to build a legacy, just look how Fremantle have done it (Well, they're on their way to a legacy it seems!).
westg Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 John I am not one for living in a two team town and supporting both teams as so many here do...there is nothing in this world that I dislike more than Fremantle I would be very happy to see all the Freo supporters placed on a big Island ..load of petrol, match ....boom 1

I don't know just when it became perfectly fine for them to be mediocre year in, yr out. 1
jimsta10 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Hird finally quits....... Or pushed. Not an Essendon fan but surely this would have been a better move a season or two ago? Hird was snapped talking to the CEO in the hallway post Doggies game. Wasn't a good look. I'd say the board was going to do anyway regardless. I'm a huge Rats fan, a true son of the club. Was shocked when Sticks made the call. I wouldn't look into anything Wallsy says...His articles have been the down fall of the club's performance. Overall, was a great player, was a great coach....."a peoples coach" that's its.. Terribly sad for him... and Bolton who is the other assistant at the Hawks appears to be the front runner for the Carlton job . I think they should of kept Rats at Carlton was an ugly three years with Mick .. Two power house clubs with coaching dilemma's hard to even imagine really........ Carlton and Essendon that is . Hopefully the Bolton announcement will be made by the end of the next. The Hawks have been a breading ground for high end performance resources. Sounds like the Japan/German of old.... The only thing Carlton and Essendon have on common are old bad habits. History has proven, both clubs has a tenancy of hiring the best job for the person and not best person for the job. Hopefully this is now the thing of the past (however having board members with lots of $$$ doesn't help with decision making either). I think you've summed it up well, West. Clubs like Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon I think have a little more pressure from their support base because of their historic success. It takes time to build a legacy, just look how Fremantle have done it (Well, they're on their way to a legacy it seems!). Freo and West Coast have done well, especially with their list. The AFL wants Carlton, Collingwood, and Essendon to do well...they bring the VIC crowds. As much as I hate Collingwood and Essendon, we really want these clubs to do well....I've been to many times at the G. especially when Carlton is playing....80k+ crowd...Atmosphere is unbelievable! You cant hear yourself think...I've been to a few soccer matches in the UK and France...cant compare.... Lets hope the 2.5 billion dollar deal does itself justice in the coming years. 1
westg Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 By that logic, Melbourne should be included. I don't know just when it became perfectly fine for them to be mediocre year in, yr out. They appointed Paul Roos on three year deal to supposedly set them in the right direction ..with Simon Goodwin sewn up last year as a succession, similar to phone bashing Nathan and hair pulling Mick..they had to otherwise he would have snapped up well and truly by Essendon. Melbournes problems go far beyond coaching ..there recruiting and trading has been laughable They took Jack Watts when they could have picked up Nic Nat and that's just one example.

Good recruiters are very hard to come by, especially in this day and age. At Carlton, got rid of three....before SOS came on board. We've had 10 years of absolute duds. Then you have clubs like Hawthorn, Sydney, West Coast etc....they seem to have a lot more hits than misses....Their players in the maggos would be our A graders at Carlton. 1
Bill Hayes Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Freo really only have a small window to win the flag if you look at their list. Typical Ross Lyon is doing what he did at St Kilda. He'll build a side capable of winning a flag with a defensive system at the expense of building the club. When he leaves Freo they may be left in the same position as St Kilda. Collingwood are in great shape. Buckley has put his stamp on the Pies in the last couple of years and is rebuilding in the wake of internal resistance from players who thought they were bigger than the club. They have a very young list yet could have won a lot more games. They also have the money and great development coaches. As a Tigers fan I'm happy that finally we look like building something in a similar way as Collingwood and Hawthorn. The Eagles look in reasonable condition as far as long term success goes by building with some youth. You can't really go wrong with the best forward in the comp in Kennedy and add Nic Nat, Priddis and Darling and a group of players all following a very well coached system with some youth thrown in. I reckon they'll have to keep developing players though. Melbourne have come on extremely well when you consider where they were. Roos has done a pretty good job so far. Everyone's surprised at the Bulldogs but they had more depth of young players that it seemed. They won the VFL premiership with a whole club coached to win the hard ball. That game plan has been expanded with the development of some young talent up forward to become more attacking. Just goes to show what can be done. But it needs to develop over time with a coach able to stick the course but also evolve. Unfortunately Mick Malthouse didn't seem to evolve with Carlton and as I thought at the time, the Carlton list was really overrated, mostly by Carlton.

As a Tigers fan I reckon you'll have enjoyed a morning cigar and coffee with a smile this morning Bill! As a Magpies fan, my steak last night was overcooked, my vegies under cooked, and my wine corked. Terrible footy by the Pies! 1

Terrible footy by the Pies! [/quote Yep mate, we actually had some nice weather as well. So went to a bar for lunch, beer and footy then came home to listen to the last quarter on the balcony old school style on the transistor radio. Enjoyed a great BBF and a bottle of award winning stout. Knew it was a good cigar because I felt like another. Over did it with a Partagas E2 and a bottle of great high potent stout. Staggered downstairs and fell asleep fully clothed on the bed before dinner. Watched the West Coast game too. They look scary good.
