Popular Post El Presidente Posted March 31, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 31, 2015 We are indeed having a ball! Crossing the roads is really part of the fun of Saigon. You read the traffic as best you can and you just go for it. Literally a hundred motorbikes will peel their way around you...or so you pray. We visited a few temples yesterday and feasted at a fine Japanese restaurant last night with a local property developer who was so gracious with her time and introduction to the city. Pre dinner drinks at one cigar bar and post dinner drinks at another which was indeed spectacular. Live bands, great selection, 5 star bar in every way. The local produce here in Vietnam has really captured our hearts. Everything is indeed vibrantly fresh and full of flavour. The variety of eateries from Vietnamese to French to Japanese to South American and everything in between cannot be faulted. Mind you until now we have been hosted by good friends who know the city well. Di is getting her head around bartering and she is becoming a dab hand! leather goods, scarves, dresses, the woman knows how to shop. I on the other hand am more than happy to poke my head into the dingy and dark places where I feel most at home. I have come across quite a few fakes here but no more than anywhere else in Asia. This Cohiba Robusto was purchased at a side cantina/Cuban restaurant which played the worst Guantanamera rendition i have ever heard. it was a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle and while the cigar was dubious (Indonesian tobacco I suspect), the staff were great and the wine cold. Off now for a kip and then into a few bars for the evening before a late meal and cigar in somewhere I have yet to decide. part of the fun is having a rough plan and no real idea 8

We were surprised last night at the top end bar. A night of Chivas and wine among four of us in decadent surrounds for $250 AUD. it was more than fair given we polished off the best part of a bottle and a half of Chivas 18. 2

Saigon Day One...I thought you were 'living large' but Saigon Day Two you're 'living larger'. Well done, guys...absolutely love hearing about this, especially going through some nice Chivas 18!
