ElLoboLoco Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Hi All, New member from Charlotte, NC, well actually Fort Mill, SC across the border! I had a membership here many moons ago but had backed away from the hobby for a few years. And I am back at it, right where I left off, dancing on the dark side. I came back with the NC's and what cigars I had left tucked away and am quickly making CC my stick of choice. Looking forward to catching up with current trends and filling up my humidors. I will sit back and read thru this treasure chest of knowledge! I was relieved to see this site going strong and thanks to ElPresident for the forum. Happy smoking!
Habana Mike Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Greetings and welcome back. Shame you weren't a couple of days earlier, we could have met up for a smoke! While I live quite some way away, I am a member at Stogie & Brew. Perhaps we'll catch up soon.
bradbrennan Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Welcome back, be curious to hear the rest of your story on what made you take a break and what brought you back!
ElLoboLoco Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Havana Mike, yes, please get a hold of me if your in Charlotte! Brad, it was a period of rapid life changes and family members had health issues that made me pause about the safety of the hobby. I have decided after consideration that the benefits of an awesome hobby outweigh the relative low risks of harm. I am making alternate, meaningful adjustments in my health that will far outweigh three to four cigars per week!
Rushman Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Welcome back. I was living in Charlotte for 2 years about 15 years ago - used to smoke at Tinder Box in the mall - I am sure by now that even in tobacco country thats been made illegal.
ElLoboLoco Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Rushman, the Tinderboxes may have moved from the mall. The last one I visited had a lounge going strong. My local BM, in South Carolina has a lounge as well. Agreed, it is getting hard to find friendly places. I usually stick to my back yard.....the weather here is usually cigar friendly.
TCContender Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Welcome, I am from Weddington, NC - not far at all from you. Was actually considering a run to your neck of the woods to check out the new Cabelas once the crowds die down.
TCContender Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 @Rushman, the Tinder Box at SouthPark mall is still open and has a smokers lounge in the back. Good little place to hide while the wife spends my money.
ElLoboLoco Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Hi TC Contender, pretty close indeed. I have considered going over as well but I think I will wait until the crowds die down a bit. Weddington is a nice area, we have been here almost two years. Love it here. Have you visited City Cigar in Blakeney?
SofaKing Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Welcome to FOH! I was just down your way last month chowing at 521 BBQ.
TCContender Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Hey Lobo, I have been in the CLT area for 15 years, but just moved to Waddington ~3 years ago. I was at City Cigar last week, they have a very nice selection - even some of the AF limited. Wish they had a lounge! I think if someone opened a cigar bar in the area, they would be very successful! JR just opened a new facility in Mooresville, supposedly much nicer that the tourist trap they had in Statesville.
ElLoboLoco Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 521 has some pretty good bbq. Oddly, I just tried to coax the Mrs to pull in but she won tonight's battle for sushi. Who am I kidding, she wins every battle. 1
ElLoboLoco Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Tc, you are 100% correct. A lounge would do well. He is one of nicest people to patronize. Great guy. There is a lounge in Rock Hill that I have been to a few times. I believe the JR Mooresville lounge has a grand opening event next weekend. Kicking around heading up for a few hours. I believe in June they are having a huge event in Burlington, kind of a Big Smoke event with quite a few vendors. My problem is I am less hankering for Nc cigars....the Dark Side. Lol
SofaKing Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 521 has some pretty good bbq. Oddly, I just tried to coax the Mrs to pull in but she won tonight's battle for sushi. Who am I kidding, she wins every battle. Was staying in Ballyntine for a week long training and it was recommended. Being from the NE I had to do a few days sampling different places, needless to say I was pork and hush pupped out! I did do Cowfish for sushi which was excellent but its a scene for sure.
warren516 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Welcome to FOH and get that post count up so you can get into the Cigar Underground Network Terra US section
ElLoboLoco Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Sofa King, That is funny, you can burn out on the bbq. I did the same thing with a local fried chicken chain when I first moved here. Cowfish is pretty good but always too busy when we show up. Lol. I will indeed work on the post count.
TCContender Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Lobos - Agreed, when I want to try a stick that is getting press, I will stop by City. I am with you on the NCs, I just got burned out on them. Ligero garbage, with few exceptions. Does SC have the same anti-smoking laws as Charlotte? Used to be you could fire up a cigar in some of the nicer bars, not anymore.
ElLoboLoco Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 I am not sure about the smoking laws here, if is legal anywhere it would be here. Hah. Totally agree, I am done with the unbalanced Ligero/pepper bombs.
