Some harsh realism for you there Mr. Accardo. I do subscribe to your overall message of the inconsistencies of Cuban cigars.

My limuted experience with RE's is that the cigars I've tried for the most part were wrapped in dark and thick wrappers that tasted like NC's (sans the spice that pervades the NC market cigars).

So, to pay the extra price for that? No sir, not me. I'll stick to my regular production cigars and marcas along with their inconsistencies. If i get a good box, I'm overjoyed. And at the very best, i hope that the next box is good too.

I do taste the differences between the marcas and tend to buy more of the ones that I do like.

But in the end, viva regular production CC's. Thank you all to those who buy and enjoy the RE/LE portfolio. That adds to the revenue to the CC machine so they can continue to make the regular production cigars (as well as RE/LE for you) that are dear to me.

Per usual, an interesting discussion with some great perspectives. As I mentioned, I feel Cuban cigars share more core similarities than they show extreme differences. This is not to say that I don't believe in "brand identity". But I sometimes think that in essence this can be more about preconception on our part than it is about blender intent. As an example, when I think Bolivar, I think supple leather. Does the blender blend thinking supple leather? I'm not so sure.

The blind tastings here over the past few years have been very intersting to me. Tasters have had the luxury of seeing / touching / being able to measure the cigars, and still the guesses vary. Imagine if one could only taste without touching or seeing? While a relatively small sample, for me it's nonetheless telling.

Our gracious host spends a great amount of time selecting cigars for his friends / clients. There is a reason for that. I love a great cigar. Cuban cigars can be magical, but they do not always deserve to be placed on a pedestal. I guess that I feel that anticipation should be tempered.
