CoCigarSmoker Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 So I've been eyeing these new CC's that hit my humidor a couple weeks ago and I just couldn't take it anymore. Against all my better judgment and the advice of the Prez I had to break into one yesterday. I didn't have a bunch of time because the wife was only going to be gone for about an hour. For February in the Rocky Mountains it was a great day with the temps floating around the upper 60's F. I chose the Partagas Short and grabbed a small glass of water. Now as a little background I normally smoke NC's and have just been dabbling into the wonderfully warm waters of the CC world. So, during this review I make some comparisons to NC's regarding flavor profile and "spice/pepper". I haven't done many cigar reviews formally before, normally I just jot down some notes as I smoke, but I figured why not. A few notes before hand: 1. The light was done with some cedar that used to line the tubo of a CC upmann 2. Water was the only thing consumed during this cigar 3. From first draw to nub time was 1 hr. 7min 4. A punch was used instead of a full cap cut. Construction A couple larger veins in the wrapper, however no soft spots were detected. Cigar is triple capped and a punch was utilized instead of a cutter because the cap did not extend very far down. The wrapper was almost a Golden Colorado with a beautiful sheen to it that sparkled in the sun. Pre-light The pre-light draw was extremely creamy with notes of soft cocoa, smooth leather, and a sort of crisp pure fresh tobacco. The draw was just shy of perfect only being a tad on the lighter side. The punch I believe was the correct choice versus a full cut. Lighting The cigar took wonderfully to a small cedar spill. All though there was a slight angle to the burn at first that I will attribute this to smoker error. First Draw The cigar explodes with creaminess. The flavors are so interwoven with cream and subtlety it’s almost hard to discern. Notes of tobacco, cocoa, and even a very small aftertaste of cherry that is there and gone First 1/3 The smoothness of this cigar blows me away, I would characterize this cigar as perhaps light to medium but my palate maybe skewed by smoking NC’s. This is not to be confused though with flavor as they abound in every draw. The notes of leather and cocoa continue as spots of roasted nuts appear throughout. The flavor of cherry pops up and disappears every couple of draws or so. The first ash held on for perhaps 1/2” or so until it dropped off. Smoke volume is great, not so thick you feel as though your mouth is being coated but still great with a slightly thin white color to it. Ash is light gray with rings of darker gray to black Second 1/3 As we break into the second third the cigar needed one lighting correction however, I had set it down for perhaps more than 60seconds to type this. Going into the second third notes of wood and cedar come through that are still being accompanied by loads of creaminess. Working our way through the second third a small note of spice came forward but again nothing compared to NC’s. This spice was subtle in nature an tempered with leather and cream. The only way to describe it is: Just right.. A small amount of nicotine can be felt as I move towards the final third. Still this cigar was smoked on an empty stomach with only water and it is still not what I would consider to be a med/full bodied cigar. Perhaps still on the light/med to med side. Final 1/3 The draw has begun to tighten up just a little bit towards the end. Flavor and smoke volume have been very consistent. The cigar has also continued to burn nice and slow and cool. The flavors have seemed to all roll into one. However, notes of milk, almonds, and toasty cedar are still able to be picked out The cigar is beginning to come more into a good well rounded medium body as we work through the final third. However, it is not overpowering or over spiced. The cigar has been very well balanced but is heating up ever so slightly. That flavor, that slightly toasted, subtle spice/burnt tobacco and cedar that is unique to CC’s is coming forward in loads. This final third may just be the best third of the cigar One additional re-light was necessary. As we get closer to nubbing this cigar the draw has greatly loosened up again to near perfect. The tight spot only lasted from about ¼” above the band to the midway point of where the band would have been had I not taken it off. I hope you all enjoyed as much as I did. This was a great little cigar that lasted longer than I expected. Cheers, Seth 4

Awesome looking pooch too The switch to CC's is amazing, no reason to ever go back to NC's in my opinion. And thanks, my four legged smoking partners tend to stick around longer when I'm forced to some outside in the colder weather haha. On 2/11/2015 at 7:47 AM, Coolio said: Great review. Yea, she was back and forth, said she didn't care for the smell on this particular cigar oddly enough. Seth 1
Geo17pip Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Nice review man, I love this little cigar when its on!
eswary Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I really like the robusto(D4) and the larger Lusitanias from Partagas. I've noticed in the last 2 yrs I tend to buy more coronas and robustos than the larger RG or length cigars. Long story short, your review makes me want to grab a box of these shorts. Great review, look reward to reading more of them!!!! Eric Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
brownpeter335 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Partagas Shorts cigars are strong, very well balanced and rich in flavor. I really like to smoke it.
JohnS Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Wow...congratulations on a thorough and outstanding review, Seth. I will refer back to this thread the next time I smoke a Partagas Short. 1
CoCigarSmoker Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Glad you all enjoyed the review. Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully I'll get more reviews up as I have time to smoke. The weather turned back to cold with snow now so no smoking outside for this guy haha. Seth

They still have about 2 1/2 weeks of resting before I can dig into them. I'll try and get these smoked and reviewed around the last week of March or the first week of April. Cheers, Seth

Walt69 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Love the party shorts. Quick smoke if you're in a hurry, or if you're careful you can really stretch it out and discern some great flavors from it.
