RockemSockem Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hi guys, Check out a couple recent purchases. Both have the same box date but one is much darker than the other. Has anyone else experienced this amount of variation with the Supremos? Anyone care to take a guess at whether they will taste the same? /Dave
forgop Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I think for the same reason we have the PSP/HQ/PE for every cigar, you will see variations of colors from one box to the next, but the colors within the same box should be consistent. Myself, I've been much more fond of the darker wrappers as packing more flavor while the lighter wrappers seem to lack flavor. Just my experience with cc's in general-none of which has to do with Cohibas as I don't buy them.
alloy Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I had a box from EML Sep 14 brought in by a friend from Abu Dhabi. They look like the box on the right with the lighter wrapper. I've smoked two (couldn't resist) and they taste Awesome.
SparklePony Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Interesting. The wrappers on the right have the color of an average retail siglo from my experience. That's kind of sad given the premium you pay for these. Who knows, though, maybe they'll taste delicious.
Blace Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I have two boxes of 520s with a similar difference in wrapper shades. I've had a couple from each and both boxes are absolutely fantastic!!!
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I smoked one of these last night and I was pleasantly surprised. 54 RG is usually my max and I like a longer cigar but this short fatty gave me 1.5 hours of great smoking. I did not have high expectations but it turns out these are great smokes. Now, no way in hell I am paying for another one, much less a box, but it was a great cigar. Rob's sampler of the 3 EL's has turned out to be real treat. The Cohiba and Partagas were phenomenal and the Bolivar was great but not quite as good.
coug28 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The perception that darker shaded cigars taste better than lighter is phooey. It's a matter or personal preference and nothing more. Many marcas I prefer a lighter shade wrapper...Cohiba being one of them. Granted, almost every box of ELs I've ever seen have had the darker wrapper coloration like the box on the left...but, if given a choice between the two, I'd choose the box on the right, as they might actually have a chance of TASTING like a Cohiba. Just one dudes opinion... 1
dicko Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Hi mate send me through one of each and I'll do a review for you...

To me lighter/thin wrappers tend to taste better sooner whilst a darker wrapper takes a bit more time, same with very oily wrappers. Thick wrappers.. forget it!
RockemSockem Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks for your input guys. I received the dark ones first and thought, wow - those are really dark. But I checked out some un-boxing videos and reviews and it seems that the Supermos are just darker in general. Seems typical of a LE cigar. When I got the second box and opened it, definitely shocked me to see the difference. That's why I had to pull both boxes together and get a shot. I haven't seen a photo or review of the Supermos as light as the one I got. Anyone else I'm not overly concerned, I like the regular Cohiba vitolas which are lighter so I'm sure I'll enjoy these too. But it's more about expectations. And they just didn't make it 100% . My expectations didn't include such a variation between boxes. Why? It's Cohiba, widely considered the top tier of all the Habanos offerings. It's an LE so don't they pick the better/best leaves crops have to offer and in a limited quantity? Same box code. I'll admit I don't know exactly how boxes codes are assigned but the assumption is that they would be from the same batch or produced in the same period of time, no? $$$$ - hey, it's true, these are expensive and people want what they pay for and that is a 'top tier' smoke. Not sure when I'll get around to trying one. I suspect I'll let them sit for a month or so first. Cheers! /Dave

hakanozdemir Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I bought a few box's from a reputable merchant in the UK which where light in colour then I bought one from another reputable place and they were really dark. I absolutely loved the dark colour. I did some research and found out that all EL cigars are Oscuro wrappers and many people think they are maduro. this link talks about the differences and how they are processed. These cigars are supposed to be really really dark in colour so im nor sure how they are this light. I thought maybe the date would be different but shocker to see you have the same dates so I cant say they ran out and used another leaf. well thats hand made for you http://www.stogiefresh.info/edu-tobacco/articles/Maduro-Oscuro-Basics.html thanks
hakanozdemir Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 have a read of this, read it all http://www.cigaraficionado.com/blogs/show/id/313
