Ginseng Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Good lord. At that point, might as well put in an order for your own barrel. Wilkey
dememihel Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 I know my brother is a liquor connoisseur.
srbbones Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I know my brother is a liquor connoisseur. Is he also a time traveler (Check for a Delorean in the garage)
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Now we know who is responsible... http://www.npr.org/2014/05/02/308939212/want-a-shot-at-10-000-solve-kentuckys-great-bourbon-mystery I kid of course!!!! Great picture and your brother has excellent taste.
mikek Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I still have about half A bottle of 12 yr. old. A friend of my daughters who is A liquor distrbuter here got it for me A year ago! Another one is Four Roses which really wasn't that popular has really spiked in price! The El Cortez here in Vegas sells A shot of Pappy 12 yr. old for $70!!!! I'm working on getting A bottle of 20 yr. old! Very hard to get in this town you have to know somebody and then it's sketchey!
peterk814 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Lord, can I buy one from him? It's not nice to horde. It's nice to share
dememihel Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 He probably would sell some but he would ask a lot for them. He has a lot of alcohol stashed that he saves for resell. He used to sell it on ebay but now you can't sell alcohol there anymore. I'll try and get his list. He has also wrote a few articles that I will try to share.
dememihel Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 He also has AH Hirsch 16 and 20 year about 18 total bottles
fokker4me Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I love how there is not one open bottle in that whole picture. What a waste, he is not a collector but a reseller. You said he stashes it to resell, I hate guys that do that. Hoard it to drink in the future, I get it but hoard it to resell at a profit to those whom don't get an opportunity to buy it at retail is wrong IMO. I have many open bottles of the stuff and share with friends or hook up friends who don't get any. 2
JohnS Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I say good luck to him. This article below will shed light on how valuable those bottles are! http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/is-stolen-pappy-van-winkle-bourbon-the-most-exclusive-item-on-the-planet/story-fnkgdftz-1226796276273 1
TM-US Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 My brothers collection Enjoy I guess that I'm supposed to be impressed? Having many bottles of the same thing, regardless of the rarity, does not make someone a connoisseur.Far from that, especially since you admitted that he buys to resell. That just makes him a criminal, if he is in the United States. He would be VERY popular on some whisky forums- the flames would be visible from space.
Ginseng Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Poor guy. I think he probably posted because he was impressed and proud of his brother's collection and he thought we'd appreciate it similarly. What a rough introduction into the ethics of collecting, connoisseurship, and profiteering. I suppose that the best one could hope for is that this will make an impression on him, if not his brother. Wilkey
dememihel Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 I take no offense in this. Everyone has their own opinions.
JohnS Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Let's face facts. We'd all line up for a bottle like those good folk in the article images I linked above.
saintsmokealot Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Guess we know where those missing bottles went. 1
z6joker9 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I haven't been able to track down a bottle of 15 year (for anywhere close to MSRP) for almost 2 years now. I've got a bottle of 12 stashed for a gift for a friend. Someone at my local recently cracked open a bottle of 12 for sharing and it was funny to see the restraint people showed when making their pours. 1
Ginseng Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 ...it was funny to see the restraint people showed when making their pours. Funny? Or courtesy. Wilkey
z6joker9 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Definitely out of courtesy, though the guy providing didn't care, all he drinks is Jack Daniels. He's also brought bottles of Eagle Rare 17 and JD Sinatra, among others. Thanks to him, ER17 is at the top of my hunting list.
