Cisco Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I only smoke outside during the summer months, as soon as November hits, I move it in doors. I don't bother "trying to tolerate" the cold, or pretending it's not that bad out.. Why bother, most of the time you don't finish your cigar or enjoy the experience. Stay warm and enjoy your cigar to the fullest. Not all of us have the luxury of smoking inside in the winter and our province offers no other options besides bundling up and heading outside. I do make up for my decreased winter smoking with summer binging. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
iahawk36 Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks guys...glad to know I'm not the only one!
Nedule Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 When I built a shed in my backyard a few years ago I insulated it so that I could smoke in there through the winter. Recently I installed a hot tub & have enjoyed a few cigars at -20 C. In the past I've tried to smoke while walking the dog in winter but really after -10 C it's just not enjoyable. I remember one winter we were in a long stretch of cold for a couple of week, cabin fever set in & I took the dog for a walk & a smoke at -30 C & the cigar literally froze & cracked & I sulked all the way home.
cns187 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I smoke in my car on my rush hour traffic drive home from work usually. That will all change when/if I have kids.
wabashcr Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 30F is my threshold for smoking outside, and that's only on my front porch, where there's generally no wind or precipitation. I can put on a winter hat, a warm jacket, and thin gloves with a couple fingers cut off on the right hand, and stay warm enough to enjoy a cigar at 30F for 2 hours or so. A warm beverage helps, of course.
iahawk36 Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Thankfully it will be in the low 40's this weekend, so I'm going to get a couple sticks in!!
cdnstogie Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I would say -10 is the lowest I will go for a smoke. If it's boarderline, I will go sit in the garage and enjoy one w/ the garage door opened a crack, but it is still not a real pleasure.... I have once in a while smoked in the car heading back from work w/ the window down... In a couple years when I end up moving to my next home I will be setting up a 'smoking' room, which will be detatched from the house or well ventilated (heated room in garage?) perhaps.
dougincanada Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Buy an 4 cylindar clunker with a working heater core. Set it up on cinder blocks. If this is your smoking room, you may be a redneck! 2
jkdooley Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I just lit up a "Shorty" in my semi-unfinished basement in honor of this thread :0 The wife will grumble in the a.m. but.... Happy almost Friday!!
headstand Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I appear to be the odd man out. I remember smoking a Bolivar CJ in minus 25 C, yes you read correctly - minus 25 Celsius. The flavours were deep, rich, and very satisfying. I'm not saying it was a pleasant time or anything like that, but I enjoyed the smoke. Twice I set the cigar down and ducked into the cabin for a bit of heat. Mind you, I was in the Alberta Rockies (the Calgary folk will know about Storm Mountain Lodge) where the air is very dry. I can't imagine doing the same in the moist winter air of southern Ontario. Where I live now, my cut off is minus 3C if the sun is shining on my face. I'm addicted.
Fosgate Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 It warmed up to almost 50 here yesterday. The dog and I went and sat in the driveway watching the sunset while burning one. 1
rtrimbath Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Winter kills my smoke output. I find any temp lower than 40f is too cold for me (yeah I'm a pansy). I use these lost opportunities as a chance to stock up for summer.
Dbone Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Usually around freezing is when I call it. If the sun is out that helps some. I don't mind the break from smoking, honestly.
Cisco Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 It got up to 1C here yesterday and it felt down right balmy compared to the -20C it had been the day before. It took advantage and smoked a sublime Monte Especiales. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
tacosowner Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Below 40 is my cut off as well, have cut it down this winter to about 1-2/week Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CatchNRelease Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Unless I can sit on my deck outside I won't smoke. There is no way I'm smoking inside
reffy Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 My cut off is usually around 45F. What's the point of smoking if you're freezing your ass off and not relaxing?
terrantheman Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Mostly car smoking for me in the winter with the occasional stop at the shop.
free85 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I have a plan to use it as a stock up/growth period for better weather (in the future).
Fosgate Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I am so smoking this weekend. Picked up a bottle of four roses single barrel bourbon and zacapa rum for the weekend.
Borgy Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Sorry guys just thinking of those temps makes me shiver in winter here, any day time temp below 20c. I think it's about 65f its hash winter in Queensland Australia
Quint Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I don't enjoy a cigar if I have to be rushed or I'm in an uncomfortable environment otherwise it's borderline cigarette smoking (huddling outside in the freezing cold to get that smoke in) so I have a heater and small TV in my garage and go out there and have a smoke or go to my local B&M and join the guys in the lounge for a smoke. But having said that I agree nothing like sitting back outside in your favorite setting enjoying a smoke.
zrotfus Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I keep my smokes to the sub hour long variety in winter but I typically get in around 2 a week. I have a good set of clothes I use to layer and bundle up so anything above around 20 degrees F really doesn't detract from the smoking experience for me unless it's crazy windy as well.
