Tried this door the first time as part of a set at Christmas and it's delicious!

£50 a bottle is not so delicious. Are there any similar tasting whisky out there that doesn't break the bank or am I going to have to start selling lemonade on the streets again?

I'd send you the rest of my bottle! It is just not for me. My friend and I tried it and no offense thought it was like bengay and duct tape.

Not an Ardbeg, but I really enjoy the Laphroaig Quater cask, very intense but very smooth. But my go to whisky is a blended malt from Skye named Te Bheag. This whisky is about half the price of the Laphroaig or 1/3 of the Ardbeg, but don't let the price fool you. This is for me the perfect whisky for any cigar.

Thanks all!

I suppose I could always sell 2 Monte sublimes :D

I got that antiseptic whiff but when it warned up it seemed to mostly go, big peaty flavours and aniseed aftertaste. Lovely stuff!

I suppose I'm lucky being close to the source so some of the very small Islay distilleries may be worth a test m, part of ne think this testing will end up more expensive than just buying the Ardberg!

Nice change of direction, found it for £35 a bottle at my local whisky store!

I had assumed supermarkets would always have the best price, no idea why they think adding £15 on top of a good idea!

They have the Octonaught there too.... Slightly worried about that one, scary stuff! Anyone tried it?

if you have Ardbeg 10 straight up it can be pretty overwhelming. I usually warm up to it during the course of an evening. Start with some Ardmore, second drink is Laphroaig Quarter Cask and third is Ardbeg 10. Each change is a step up in flavour and intensity and by the time you take the first sip of Ardbeg 10 is is heaven!

If you have the chance check out Edradour. Smallest legal distillery still operating and some nice expressions I've only been able to find at the source.

You should try Lagavulin, for a lot of peat as it seems like you like that. I really like Talisker but its far less intense then Lagavulin on the peat/smoke scale. You might also try Longrow which is a pleated Cambletown from Spring bank distillery. I also love the less intense Caol Ila and Highland Park.

I will second Lagavulin. It's ony of my favorites. There's a lot of good to taste in that bottle, which itself is beautiful.

I may be late to weigh in on the Edradour, but I have been really enjoying the Caledonia from them. Neat is better than with ice.
