OleOle Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I'd suggest a Longines Hydroconquest. That's a nice watch brand for a nice price, looks quite robust too. It's a pity they don't do one with a leather strap as I cannot stand metal straps constantly snagging hairs on my wrist. They do a rubber strap which I assume would be more durable than a leather one (no idea, haven't tried a rubber strap before) and if you looked after the watch, there's an outside chance that the watch might appreciate in value. http://www.longines.com/watches/longines-hydroconquest Thanks for the suggestion
ErikB Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Any one here familiar with the Watch Snob? Always a good read. I love watches, wear a JlC MUT.
Fosgate Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 OK, Update. I was going to buy an Obris Morgan Explorer II but a friend pointed out a deal he picked up on that has been going on and off over the last week. I missed it several times but checked this morning and it was on again. Picked up a Deep Blue Sun Diver III automatic in green slammed down to $224.86 and then signed up for email and got another 10% off. I feel it is a decent way to start back out again to decide If I want to go back to wearing watches. http://www.evine.com/Offer/Default.aspx?OfferCode=623-924

cdfarrar Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I Purchased an Omega Seamaster in 97 for 1k(used/96 model)and it has been through the ringer. This is the "James Bond" introduced in the movie Goldeneye. Not a bulky watch and can look good with most attire. Works today as well as the day I took ownership. It's not "Indestructible"(Hollywood/Bond) but $ for $ the "best built" watch on the market. Costco(US) sells them for a great price. 1
Fosgate Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 Part of what made me want a watch is just how many times I would get ribbed for looking at my phone when I was just checking the time. I only asked for it because friends know the quickest way to upset me is to come out for a meal or conversation and either talk on your phone or play games on it. That, talk to me with sunglasses on or try to shake hands with gloves on are three things I don't remain silent on. Anyone out there get busted out checking your watch as you do with your phone?
LordAnubis Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Is shaking hands with gloves on a bad thing? At work and when I travel to those freezing hell hole places like Ireland and London I always shake peoples hands with gloves on If its that impolite then it shouldn't be so god damn cold outside damn it! Same as for sunglasses. Yes sunglasses inside a building is weird, but sunglasses when you're outside is pretty much required if you live in Africa or Australia.
Mckucci Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Take a look at www.watchmaxx.com they have great prices on watches! Look at; Tissot; Hamilton; Oris (a little more, starting at $700.00 but they are fantastic watches)
DoubleDD Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I love my two Rolex Datejusts. They keep great time. They look professional and class me up a little. Service can be steep but it's well worth it for the investment. Pre-owned can cut costs by 50%. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't know the gloves thing growing up in the great white north either until I was stationed in Germany with the Army. First winter there and I got busted out for trying to shake hands with a guy by him and everyone else in the platoon. Had that argument with myself and any new young guys after that. Don't know if it's a German thing, U.S. Military thing or what. Good way to get on the bad side of someone was to try and shake hands with gloves on, sunglasses on and always watch where you are stepping when your close to others. If you step on someones boots and scuff their finish your in deep do do, especially if those feet are connected to a Non Commissions Officer.
