El Presidente Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Over the next two weeks we will go back and seek a brief overview from members over the individual Limited Edicion's from each year. Today we will start with the launch of the LE program in 2000. We would love to have your input. Hoyo de Monterrey - Particulares Gran Corona 47 X 235 (9.3#) I have had some excellent ones over the years. I have been hamstrung by two things however, 1. the size of the cigar (not my style and that is a personal preference) and 2. way too many poorly constructed cigars resulting in tight/plugged smokes. Overall a fail in my book due to the latter. Score: 4 out of 10. Montecristo - Robustos Robusto 50 x 124 (4.9#) Loved them then. On the rare occasion I get to try one these days ...still love them. Cocoa chocolate goodness in a light medium body. I preferred them a few years after release 2003/4 but I can say the same for most LE's. Score 9 out of 10 Partagás - Pirámides Pyramide 52 x 156 (6.1#) The "hot cigar" that really got the LE concept moving. One of the most faked LE's of all time! I loved it young. Rich, intense, great. I probably only get to try one once or twice a year these days. they have lost the intensity. Still very good but I remember the "gentleman mongrel" of the first 5 years. Score 9 out of 10 Romeo y Julieta - Exhibición No.2 Double Corona 49 x 194 (7.6#) Lost in the buzz of the Partagas and Monte release but still a very good cigar if subject to a few construction faults (no where near as bad as the Hoyo). I haven't smoked one since 2007/8. It had the benchmark R&J cherry sweetness with a dark chocolate nuance. Touch over medium bodied. Would love to know how they are smoking today. Score 8 out of 10. For those that have tried them, would love your input I have added a poll but unfortunately can only have 3 questions. Expand on your answers on this thread. Upon completion I will move it to the review section for future reference. 1
Maplepie Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I put up a review on the RyJ Exhibition around 2 months ago. Gave it a 5 ... out of 100 The MC Robusto I had a while back deserved a 50 at best. The 06 rerelease was significantly better. Yielding a 75, 77 for me. Enjoyable smoke, that one was. Not worth the public prices of 30+, though. Not even worth $20... Moogypug Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Must say, this is really informative. I hope to hear more from members.
ATGroom Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Never had the Hoyo, but I've done reviews of the Monte and Party in the last year or so... both had asbestos wrappers and major burn issues, but were good when they worked. http://duskybeauties.com/index.php/montecristo-robusto-edicion-limitada-2000/ http://duskybeauties.com/index.php/partagas-piramides-edicion-limitada-2000/ 1
Maplepie Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 both had asbestos wrappers and major burn issues problem with LEs up until...... 2014, eh?
Tailitos Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 It's truly unfortunate to hear this time and time again that particulares are getting a name for being plugged pretty often. I have yet to get a plugged one and sucks to hear you guys experienced it. But at least we get the chance to try another one.
ChanceSchmerr Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 The only Hoyo Particulares I've had experience with was a box of the '02 "revival", which had 5 coffins, just like Monte A's now. Sorry to say, they are pretty much the only cigars I've bought from our hosts that were horrible - plugged to the hilt, and boring, lame tobacco when they did draw. I have one coffin left buried in my collection....no idea when I'll ever have enough morbid curiosity to try it. The '00 Partagas Piramides LE, I was lucky enough to find a box from a Saudi collector, and they have been stellar, stellar smokes. 95 point cigars for me - plenty rich, loads of smoke and depth of flavour, and not fireproof as some have experienced. I treasure my remaining half box of 'em.

Wicky Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 My only experience was with the Hoyos. Bloody awful cigars.
MontrealRon Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Partagas Piramides, bought in Cayo Coco hotel shop by friends in 2001, CUC 132.50 IIRC, same price as Monte 2's. Bloody brilliant, probably my favorite box ever. Still have more than half, only smoke them on special occasions. Every one has been a 95+. P2s a big disapointment, never came close. No experience, nor interest, in the other releases.
