subport Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Great looking Punch Punch wrapped in milk chocolate. Just like a photoshopped one, no veins, no teeth, pure and silky. Firm to the touch with no soft spots at all. Pretty tight draw after a 7mm punch. Thinking about to cut with guillotine to open it up. Well I give it a try first. Cold draw is fresh cedary tobacco and pepper and spice. Very promising. Easy to light with wooden matches. Woody, light spicy, sweet core to begin with. Tasty. I could enjoy more smoke output so still thinking about the guillotine cut. I taped the beautiful white and grey ash at around an inch in then showed it to my guillotine. Heureka. Opened up perfectly and now giving me more smoke output. The sweet wood notes are very entertaining. The sweetness won the battle in the first third just to slowly fade away and give the throne to the woodiness in the second one. However it is still coming back time to time just not to fall into oblivion.Toasted tobacco showed up for a good company to the dry woody taste. They are walking around hand in hand on my palate. Over the halfway point some nice spice mix is kicking in. It is trying to knock out the woodiness to take the first place in the last third. I'm looking forward to see what happens next. The mixture of the spice is so good. I want this to win. Well no clear winner at the end. Or yes, I am because all the flavors are in. Sweetness again, woodiness, spices, milk chocolate, toasted tobacco, hints of nutmeg. Wonderful combo fighting on my palate. Pretty even burn all the way down to the nub. No touch-ups needed. (though I made some unnecessary cosmetics) Smoking time 120 minutes.93 points without thinking about it.Detailed scoring: Appearance and construction: 15/15Flavor: 23/25Smoking characteristic: 23/25Overall impression: 32/35I have to apologies for all the mistakes I made. I am not a native English speaker. I am not a reviewer either by any means. In fact this was my first ever cigar review just to participate for those aged goodies ;-) Thank you Gents P 3
Habana Mike Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Very nice review and no noticeable problem with the language from what I read. Looking forward to more and good luck on the draw! Perhaps you'll get second

bradbrennan Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Great job, sounds like a good one! I like the band still on the ash
cpmurrin Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 nicely done. i notice my punch punchs tend to have a little bit of a salty taste to them but outstanding recently. thanks
subport Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 I wish a bit of saltiness added to the mix. Last really salty thing came from Conni 1 thanks mates
Dbone Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 The 2013 Punch Punch have been real treats. All the flavors you described add to its complexity but the balance of them all make it such a sexy cigar. It's been a long time for me to get box after box that smoke this well. Good job ?
Laxman Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Great review, well done. I am loving these cigars from 2013. Just grabbed another two boxes in the last week or so. Have had good luck over the users with the punch punch. Always have done better with 5 plus years on them. My 07 and 08's are really smoking well now.
PapaDisco Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Very well done review. You got lucky with the guillotine. In my experience, I've usually found the tight spot on a Punch Punch to be somewhere other than the head. Once or twice the guillotine helped me out, but usually I've had to resort to extreme cigar massage or just suffer! When a Punch Punch is on though, it is a truly exquisite cigar!
subport Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Very well done review. Do you know the year and box code of your Punch Punch? You got lucky with the guillotine. In my experience, I've usually found the tight spot on a Punch Punch to be somewhere other than the head. Once or twice the guillotine helped me out, but usually I've had to resort to extreme cigar massage or just suffer! When a Punch Punch is on though, it is a truly exquisite cigar! Yes I do. It is in the topic title BRA OCT 13 Well to be honest this was my first ever luck when guillotine helped to open up a tight draw. No other cigars ever before, hehe. It was only the 2nd one out of the box but brilliant.
Geaux Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Just got a box of these with the same box code. Glad to hear you liked them. But my question is - let them sit for a year or two, let them sit for 5+ years, or just smoke them now. I mean a 93 rating seems like a no brainer as there is not a lot of room for improvement --- but do they have the legs to get in the 95+ range?

Sorry mate but I won't be able to make that decision instead of you. Try it, taste it and decide yourself. In general I don't age too many boxes just to have aged ones, especially not when I like it right now. For me it is clear that this box will not survive this year. Though I have another one to sit on IF ... Like Mag 46 last year. Had 3 boxes. Wanted to go through one box and put away 2. Failed because it was really the thing for me. Just smoked them, half a box left. Smoke it if you like it now. Why not? Or buy more if you wanna see how they do with more age on them. You might score it lower. It is edgy but it in a good way TO ME. Btw yes, they still have room to go. This is how I roll only.
Geaux Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Sorry mate but I won't be able to make that decision instead of you. Try it, taste it and decide yourself. Wait... What? You mean to tell me that a complete stranger on an inter webs message board won't be able to make decisions for me? What is the world coming to? .... Seriously - I was just looking for your opinion on if you think they are worth aging, or better to smoke'm if you got'm. I think you answered that. Thanks for the review and for the thoughts post review.
