Popular Post Habana Mike Posted August 2, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 2, 2014 Boli CE from a 50 cab: Beautiful parchment-like smooth colorado claro wrapper, firm construction though I feel a knot about an inch from the wrapper and hope it won't affect the draw. The cigars in this cab all have a very light dusting of white mold (bloom?) which doesn't wipe off with a dry finger... Quick punch and notice a tight draw, not plugged just very firm resistance. Cedar, earth and slight mustiness on the cold draw. Sparked it up around 12:20, despite the tightness I got a good first puff with decent smoke production from both ends. Hoping draw loosens up a bit as I smoke it. Smooth and medium-bodied with decent strength at the onset. Leather and dust predominant. Continuing on, notes of roasted nuts and cocoa join the leather. First ash after 20 minutes or so. Easy on the retrohale, minimal spice - primarily cedar. I enter the middle third around 1:00. Draw opens up a bit, still with the leather though a sweet syrupy flavor begins to come through. Coming in to the final third strength picks up and I'm getting some pepper along with cedar through the nose. Chocolate makes a reappearance though leather still dominates. A long and luscious finish coats my palate, really enjoying this one. I wrap up about 10 minute to 2:00, 90 minutes of true smoking bliss. Ah, back to the real world..... 6
asmartbull Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Thanks for taking the time.....imho, these are what Boli's are supposed to take like. I think all those box codes have similar firm draws
Habana Mike Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 It was my pleasure. I find that when I take the effort to review a cigar I pay much more attention to it and it lasts longer than when I'm just enjoying the smoke with libations, friends and/or other distractions.
Colt45 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I've a few left from an '06 cab, all of which have been a joy. Personally, I've pretty much always found the CE, CG, PC, CJ to be great cigars. Thanks for the review.
mk05 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 A true blue Bolivar, blended strong. It is a shame that you can't find these easily anymore.
soutso Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I agree that you notice so much more during a review. You don't generally smoke a cigar and concentrate on the flavours. You just enjoy it. When thought goes into it you really can experience so much more. Still, it's always nice to sit back, relax and not think at all!
Optic101 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Great review Mike. Like your staging. Booklet, Pen ..., reminds me of Fleming.
