New to the hobby here...recently introduced to habanos, and comparatively priced cigars don't do it for me anymore. I am looking into getting more serious by buying a cooler and ordering a decent supply of cigars to keep on hand and age nicely. Recent smokes I have really enjoyed have been Monte no 4, Cohiba Siglo IV, Partagas Serie D no 4, and Ramon Allones specially selected. I enjoyed these with a friend of mine who orders from overseas, and at the prices he pays it make the AF Hemingways and Rocky Patel '92s I usually enjoy seem to be not worth the price anymore. Any other recommendations would be appreciated, I prefer the robusto style because it is vary rare that I can get 2 or 3 hours to smoke a cigar.

I am someone who usually goes to the cigar shop by my house and picks up a stick when I get the urge, but I will have to step it up a bit and get the cooler or a humidor if I want to move onto habanos. What are some opinions of the new air cooler on here? My friend swears by his.

Greetings and welcome!

I'd suggest along with the Robustos (Boli RC,HdM Epi #2, Upmann Connie #1, JL #2, CoRo), you also sample some Petite Coronas and Lonsdales among others.

Check out the starter sampler: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=119057&hl=sampler

That'll give you a good cross-section of marques and vitolas.....

Welcome, what part of NY are you from?

I would try as many CC's as you can to get an idea of what you like and what you don't like. You really can't go wrong with any of the big marcas like Boli, Cohiba, Upmann, Hoyo, Partagas, and Ramon. Try the robustos and petit coronas of major marcas to get an idea of the flavor profiles. I ordered a sampler from Prez when I started out and it was a great way to try a variety without having to buy a full box.

Im in the Middletown, NY area. I might do the sampler but am also looking to place a big order to age for a while in a humidor while enjoying a stick every now and then. Friends have recommended the following to me:

Montecristo no 2

Partagas serie d no 4

Ramon allones specially selected

Cohiba robustos

H Upmann Robusto

Thoughts?

Also...any thoughts about the Newair cigar cooler with some moisture beads in it instead of a traditional humidor?

Welcome! I've had great success with my Vinodor, a 28 bottle version. You can't go wrong with flexibility in storage options, capacity or simplicity. I keep mine in a cool part of my house so the cooling components aren't active.

Searching around this and other cigar boards will find you all the info on setting up a winodor you could ask for.

cheers,

jp
