I watched this 2011 Australian film "The Snowtown Murders" the other night ago. Directed by Justin Kurzel and based on the real life murders. Very disturbing for me. I feel there was a great backbone to portraying the story but it could have been condensed and/or dramatized a bit- the movie goes on for two hours with some long pauses with this depressing color palette.

Honestly, the accent was so deep I had to put on the subtitles as I had no idea what they were saying. Everyone in the film seemed like a pedophile/killer/deranged mad person at one point or another and it had to be the most cigarettes I've ever seen smoked on screen!! It gave me a headache to see the amount consumed there.

I have tried to do some research on the comparisons between the filmed version and the real life story that ended the lives of a dozen and the real life photos of snowtown seem to be just as desolate and eerie as the film.

Can any Aussies shed light on this story if they remember from news in the mid to late 90's? Any one seen the film- if so what did you think of it?

Never saw the film. From what I can remember, the Snowtown murders occurred back in the late 90's in South Australia. Due to the discovery of 6 bodies found in barrels in a disused bank vault, the murders were also known as the "bodies in barrels" murders.

I think the victims were all suspected paedophiles and/or homosexuals, or at the very least, that's what the serial killers believed.

I remember a doco I watched that played some actual phone conversations between the two killers. F'n chilling man
