Ken Gargett Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 how often do we despair of the actions of so many of our top sportsmen - in pretty much any sport. now and then we come across someone who really does act like a role model and who steps up and acts in a manner we can all appreciate. this clip (i know it has got a fair bit of play over in the states) sent to me by a friend who is actually a cowboys fan (no one is perfect). i thought it a real feel good story and worth sharing. http://www.wjla.com/articles/2014/05/special-student-asked-to-prom-in-centreville-with-help-of-rgiii-103625.html 2
Ken Gargett Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Amen....and I am perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was going to say a cowboys fan and shoots things but then i thought i didn't want to strip you of all dignity!! (and in case anyone else is wondering, no, definitely not looking to start a gun thread).
PapaDisco Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 i was going to say a cowboys fan and shoots things . . . Might be more accurate to say "shoots AT things" whether or not he actually hits them is questionable . . .

On RG3, kid is a true class act. One of the better role models to ever play in the NFL and only after 2 seasons. He handles the spotlight well and seems to make the right choices thus far for being so young. That being said, I still hope he throws more picks than Eli did this upcoming season..even with Desean.

Hahah touché Ken. Although don't bet on Hatcher being too much of a force for the deadskin's, he played mediocre at best before his contract year (last year) and that's the truth. Washington may have payed him, but our O-line has seemed to improved a decent deal these passed 2-3 years. Romo has been seeing less of the ground lately. Defensively? I have no argument. Worst defense in the league and without Lee, it will be interesting to see the results.Didn't mean to pull the original intention away from your post, knew you were a Wash fan and havn't said anything since.. Had to take my shot. Lol, no disrespect intended. Salute Dan

ptrthgr8 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 It is a bit of a shame that the douchebag athlete stories seem to get so much more attention than the good-guy athlete stories. Russell Wilson spends a lot of time at the Seattle Childrens Hospital visiting as many of the sick kids as he can. It gets a lot of good press in the local Seattle news, but not sure how much air time it gets outside of Seattle. One of the things I've liked most about the NHL is the relative scarcity of douchebag stories and relative prominence of good-guy stories. The individual hockey clubs (and the NHL overall to a lesser extent) have always been known for supporting local charities, visiting sick kids, Make-A-Wish events, etc. I'm sure all the pro sports teams do that, too, but it just seems like the NHLers are doing it all the friggin' time, year round, win or lose. I'm probably biased, too, but it just seems like the NHLers are doing those sorts of things more than the other pro sports out there. (But that's a totally unscientific observation on my part.) Ken - let's start a gun thread! WOOT! Cheers, ~ Greg ~
Ken Gargett Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 nice finish to that story. greg, always up for a gun thread - unfortunately rob seems to think that people may get overexcited. i'm on double secret probation. over here, same thing. broncos do lots of charity work but one transgression will get 100 times the coverage. sadly, despite what people say, they'd prefer to read about that. 'broncos players do charity work' will not sell a single paper. 'broncos player caught in toilets with hooker' will sell squillions.
