JasnRach Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Hi All, I have not had a Robaina before and I have read a bit about the history of the family and Don Alejandro lately and it has got me wishing to try one of their sticks. Do you rate these cigars and which stick would you recommend I buy a box of first to try? Cheers.
Smallclub Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I have read a bit about the history of the family and Don Alejandro lately and it has got me wishing to try one of their sticks. FYI, Vegas Robaina cigars and the Robaina family are not related (other than the name given in honor of Don Alej), ie VR cigars are not "their" cigars...
JasnRach Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Oh ok, thanks for the info Small. I do know all are owned by the one company, but assumed they had close ties to these cigars. Cheers mate.
Maplepie Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Do you rate these cigars and which stick would you recommend I buy a box of first to try? Cheers. i like your style! VR Unicos. those are great sticks...... Just got meself a box of those! nice staple in my humidor Whilst we're on this topic, has anyone tried the Famosos Ramirez? any different from the regular Famosos?
cottierm Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I am also going with the Unicos which are my favorite on the current VR catalogue. However, I should also point out to my fondness for the recently discontinued Clasicos (still available as of last spring in Cuba).
Maplepie Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 However, I should also point out to my fondness for the recently discontinued Clasicos (still available as of last spring in Cuba). i'll back you up on those, too. mostly because i love the Lonsdale size. i didn't know they are discontinued, now... Mind you, never cared too much for the VR marca. never did enough for me except for the Unicos. gave the Swiss regional a glanceover once and didn't look back. same with the Canadian Sublimes
oliverdst Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I am not a "single" guy (reasons that don't matter now) but maybe it's a good idea to use the coupom and buy some sticks to taste. http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118669#entry488606
Trent0341 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I second (or third) the VR Classicos. Really like that cigar and it is a shame it is discontinued. It is, however, still, available. Try them while you can.

I'm guessing you are asking two things. What are these farm rolls indeed, and why are there different grades, for different people? Do I need to beat Hirochi in kareoke to get the correct ones? Or is it that it is a figment of one's imagination? Perhaps random cigars are being passed, purported as such. If they were not rolled in front of you, I guess it is truly a custom roll, anything that you want, according to your imagination. What is Vegas Robainas about, as a brand? Does anybody know? What are these supposed to taste like? Does anybody know what the philosophy was? Are these also whatever you want it to taste like? People say VRs need many years to come around, but Cubans blend cigars to be smoked immediately, so what is wrong with these cigars? What a mess.

Doubt he was referring to the farmed custom rolls more just the marca, its profiles, and perhaps a small, subtle histoire... Sent from my BlackBerry Q10 using Tapatalk for Android.
JasnRach Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 Thanks Maplepie and Cottierm, I might have to give them a go. Thanks for the coupon Oliver, I never saw that. Cheers.

Sent from my BlackBerry Q10 using Tapatalk for Android. mk05 & Maplepie, What are these farm rolls you talk about? I assume they are cigars rolled by the Robaina family on their farm? How would one go about sourcing these, are they available through the normal chanels or do you need insiders? Who is this Hirochi and where do I find him, I do have a good singing voice................not hahaha
IPORTER Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Smoked a 5 year old Unico's yesterday.....was licking my ears after it! Glorious flavours!
SaintLuis Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 If youre new to the marca, id suggest starting with one of the newly discontinud vitolas, as theyre smaller RG, and will offer a bit more concentrated version of the flavor profile, which is a very unique sweet, round and rich style. Plus, you'll end up with a box of something that will soon be impossible to get. I like the familiars/classicos. Theyre very similar, both 42RG, and 5.5 and 6.25" respectively (corona and cervantes)
Knilas Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 ^This^ Both the classicos and familiar are exceptional. I smoked a '12 famosos last night that was pretty good too. Keep Smilin!
