Hello all!

I have got a box box of H. Upmann Mag 46 for 2009. Received these from our host a few months back.

Smoking one now and looking at the bands and they are tarnished.

Has anyone seen this before and what is the cause?

Thanks in advance.

I love an old rusted band!

The metals in the paint used to print tend to rust sometimes in a humid environment.

They are pretty common to happen. Many older bands you will see this with the rusting/tarnishing over time. In my experience I have seen it most frequently on H.U, Partagas, and Bolivar. The L.E. Band gets them too frequently. Does any one know the type of paint used in Cuba label printing? I wonder if they use paint with heavy metals like lead, chrome, or mercury

Have seen this on every old La Gloria I have smoked.

It has gotten to the point where I expect to see it on them.........

some bands ... the gold turns green (as has been said a few times already ) ... from humidity .

some bands ... get turned black(especially where a vein goes under it) ... from tobacco oils .

only "heavy metal" i would worry about would be gold .

I believe the gold on most bands has brass powder in it which is why you see the green corrosion over time and exposure to air and humidity. Im trying to find where I read this but the source is eluding me.
