AbuAmelia Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I'm sure a lot of you guys have large collections. Is there One box or so that is your baby. That you don't really touch unless it a very special occasion. I'm looking to buy a couple of special boxes. I placed a couple from last night. An extra box BHK 56 with my daughters birth month of ENE13 that I will not touch for a very long time and only smoke them for highlights of her accomplishments. I'm looking for another box similar. I thought I was doing that and placed a box of Monte A with a box code of 01. After seeing The review on that, I'm thinking of changing it before he ships. That stick is just way too long. What are your recommendations? Thanks in Advance!
Skyfall Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I would remove your mention of sources if I were you. Just my 2 cents,
Skyfall Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have a lot of special boxes I try not to touch, and some stashed away that I won't touch for 15 more years. I have alot of boxes vacuum sealed and in the very bottom (coldest) that reflect the month and year of the birth of my kids. For example: Boli Gold Medals, RG CE's, HU Epi Esp, Behike's, One box of every EL during those years and Boxes of many of the RE's during those years, and many more. For (non sentimental month and year) boxes: I have a hard time talking myself into digging into: '98 Sir Winstons '00 Partagas Lonsdales '00 SLR Churchills '03 Sir Winstons '03 Monte C's EL '09 Dip 2's that are beyond words amazing '09 Rass that I will cry when they are gone '10 Monte 2's that I only have a few boxes left that are so good I will cry when out '09 Boli Gold Medals '07 Original Release Cohiba Genios '99 R&J Churchills '08 Coro '04 Pary Lusi's '01 Party Churchill de Luxe '08 Monte Sublimes EL '07 VR Maestros '03 VR Anniversaries '09 R&J Dukes EL Hamlets I've rationed these to the point of insanity! 2

Skyfall Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 That's a lot of kids. Multiple Boxes for each date. Not that many kids.
ajgw Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Hey, I don't have any special boxes as yet, I tend to smoke the pants out of everything I own. HOWEVER I'm on the cusp of a BHK52 purchase for those deep & meaningful special occasions.... such as bIrthdays..... or Wednesdays.
polarbear Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have trouble dipping into intact boxes Once I remove that first stick, I'll smoke through that box inside of two years, I I tend to try to keep boxes complete for as long as I can. That bring said, I have some boxes that are on my "white whale" lists. These will be hard to smoke through and are reserved for special occasions Boxes like my RA 898's, LGC Jar, Cohiba 1966's, Monte Sublimes, RA CF's and Dipli RE's will be hard to crack open when the time comes...
zmancbr Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Honestly the only special ones I have are the ones celebrating my Wedding anniversary and I have some boxes celebrating my grandparents since they were so dear to me. Those boxes with special dates include Sig IVs, RGPCs, and Monte As for my wedding anniversary (I may grab a cab of Lusis to add to the mix). Then some PLPCs and PSD4s for the last birthdays that I had with my grandparents. Everything else in my humi is fair game! If my buddies come over and wanna smoke some of my '03 Parti lonsdales, or 99 RS12s, or anything else in my humi we will dig in. Life is too short to save them all for special occasions and I would rather die having tried all these great cigars than saving them for a special day that never arrives. In my mind everyday is a special day! 2
shlomo Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have a few specials, but nothing that I wouldnt smoke at any time if I just wanted a great cigar, but really am looking for August 2006 to celebrate a special occasion......which I do not have. 1
KoreanCowboy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I'm a smoker and don't have the will power to collect. I take that back, I have a box of the 2010 Monte EL and a box Partagas EL's for my daughters birthday. Smoke 1 or the other each year until she's 18.

I have a mix of the 52, 54, and 56.

I have a mix of the 52, 54, and 56. I think that's the plan, stack up on BHK's. I think they are one of the most elegant cigars, packaging and all. 1
kwsaw63 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I have a box of March 2003 Hoyo de Dieux that I dip into once a year on my birthday...in March Still have 20 left, so it'll be interesting to see if I outlast the box! 1
rigby Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 The last "special box" was a 2001 cohiba lancero… I smoked the last one on new year's eve… it was beautiful. 1

fingerburner Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Nice idea. Since having kids I have paid special attention to grabbing some birth year EL's and RE's, along with some favourite regular production offerings. I think it's going to be great to open a box of birth year smokes for significant birthdays etc.. when they and their friends are old enough to appreciate them. My only concern is having the necessary willpower to hang on to them. 1
Franko Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 New with adding my cc collection. But looking on any box from my first son date born. August 2009. I wish I can find any marca.
stillinger Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Ha no kids, but I imagine one day I'll have some special occasion boxes. I've got a nice box I'm getting my buddy for his wedding. 1
Fosgate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Nothing real special. Sure I'll save some Bohike56's (Just got a box in) for those real special celebrations. For the most part I would hate to have some special box I really want to save only to die before I get a chance to smoke them. Knowing my family they would just get tossed or neglected by someone who doesn't appreciate them. Maybe it's sarcastic in a way but I have known too many people who saved collections of stuff only to waste after they pass. Every day on this earth is a celebration with some days bigger than others. 2
GnarlyEggs Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I am still trying to decide what to get for my wedding box. SEPT 13. This will be first box I use for special occasions.
LP9 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I would say my 1st box will always hold a special place in my heart, while not my favorite ( RASup) it's what made me purchase my 1st wineador! Notice how I said 1st, now on my 2nd LOL 1
