HI everyone, I just ordered my first box of Partagas 898 and I am eagerly awaiting its arr?ival. Since there as not been much feedback on this cigar lately, other than the quality was quite low in 2012/2013...are there recommendations on how long to hold on to these before smoking. I know the general 6 month guidance, try again, etc...but based upon your experience is there a typical sweet spot (similar to QdO) like 3 to 5 years for this particular blend?

Just curious your experiences.

Open them. Try them. Decide for yourself.

I have a box of 2012 that are smoking better than my box of 2008.

The 2012 are smooth already. Roasted Nuts, Wood, Espresso, Earth, and Mild Spice. I think my box of 2008 will get there, but right now they're still a bit bold.

This is one cigar that can stand any time you give it IMO. I am loving my 08's yet I've been told to hold onto them for the long haul from friends.

Don't know for newer productions. My 2009 are not ready yet.

Seems are recent stock is all smoking better than 2010-2011 stuff. I try my best to let all ccs of that size to hit 5 years before I start dipping into them. Im pretty new to the game so sometimes its hard. Try one and see how it is!

My 2011s are not ready yet. They were nice ROTT, but horrid for a stretch of about 6 months. They're now coming back around, but comparing them to some from 07 and it's not even close. Another 2 years, methinks.

I have a HQ box of Partagas 898 code LEM JUN 11. I've had quite a few over the last 2 years and to my taste they've all been very good. Medium/full, with typical Partagas spice and quite smooth right to the finish.

They haven't had great complexity but each has been a solid, highly enjoyable 89 to 91 point cigar. I'm not sure if more complexity will develop with age. Would be keen to hear other FOH thoughts on that.

Although some like the HDM Des Dieux and QDO Coronas are renowned for needing 5 years+ to be at their best, for most cigars I think it's best to just try them every 6 months or so (as you've mentioned mychetboy) and if they're good - smoke them ok.gif

I have 2012s that are awesome. I have never tried any others though so can't say if they are better or worse than other years.
