rick3985 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I am an new member to the site, but not new to cigars. I am very familiar with most cigars that are readily avaliable in the U.S., but have not had that much exposure to habanos. (The exception being a box of petite corona upmans I:-) got on a trip, and a couple R&J P/Cs) I am looking to learn, share my love of smokes with other members, and generally, just make some new friends.... Thanks for having me.... -rick3985

rick3985 Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 So, for a first purchase..... I enjoy top-shelf smokes like the padron anny 64, Diamond Crown Max, Anejos, Ashton VSGs, etc. What would you reccomend for a nice box of habanos form this site? Anything that is just a must-have? What are the best sticks at about a robusto size or larger? Anyone help?:-)
rick3985 Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 Am I making a mistake by asking?:-|

Im just up the road in Saint A A few other here are a little closer to you as well. Maybe they'll chime in. What to get for your First purchase? If you like a full bodied, stronger smoke Id go with a Partagas Serie D4. A lighter bodied more floral smoke a fav of mine is the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme - very good value. You could also go for a Cohiba Robusto. The new Partags Serie P No. 2 is a damn good piramide. Full bodied, but not as strong as the D4. There are tons of options. My advice would be get a 25 sampler. 3 or 4 of each Rob or any other guy recommends. Hope that helps a bit!
Mel Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Is Sabastian Inlet still the sleepy little board beach it was when I went there every week in the seventies? I am originally from Fla., lived in Palatka and Avon Park. I am in East TN now and love the mountains Hope we can met at the big fish off in the Keys. Cohiba Sig VI top all way around, but not cheap.

shrink Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Florida? Isn't that part of Cuba? ;-) Welcome, Rick.
Mel Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 » » Funny, I fished the inlet just yesterday and slayed two 30-32 inch snook. » First snook I "slayed" was off the jetty. I shot it with a spear gun while scuba diving. Upon surfacing I was told that was illegal and I released the fish. Loved that quaint little beach. Yes Palatka. We went often to SA to play at the fort and visit the old jail. Never thought to much about the beach there. We went to Cresent Beach evey sunday during the summer. What type of farms do you have? Potatoes in Hastings?;-)

Spud2 Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Welcome to FOH from the Great (White North) Lakes State. Hasn't been above freezing for 2 weeks and they call this fall.

As for a Suggestion, I read the previous replies and personally do not agree with them because of your stated preference of medium Full Bodied to full bodied cigars that are known to be spicy (i.e. the VSG has a peppery flavor profile). You stated that you like Robusto's. The cigar for you is a simple choice: Partagas Serie D No.4 (PSD4) or Ramon Allones Specially Selected (RASS) After those, you can venture out and explore the many different avenues available. Tampa
