In light of the "What's your favourite Diplomaticos" thread, what are members thoughts on the cigars to load up on now? (thinking that they won't be around much longer.) I sit here kicking myself for not buying more boxes of Dip #4 when I had the chance years ago.

The thing is, HSA has already decimated most of the interesting cigars and I'm left scratching my head as to what I would load up on now. MC Especial #2, VR Clasicos, JL PC, LGC #4 (in fact the whole LGC lineup) are the ones that I would say have a limited life span. What do you guys think?

I thought VR Classicos was already discontinued? As of 2011 I believe it was. Definitely worth stocking up on IMHO.

Thanks Trent0341, You are right! I see the Clasicos and Familiar are both discontinued in 2012 according to cubancigarwebsite.com... and I haven't even gotten around to trying the Familiar yet...

Looks like I need to order some some of the Familiar since I haven't managed to try that one either. I didn't even know that was discontinued.

Has anyone seen any of the Classicos with a 2012 box code?

What about the HdMs? Des Dieux? Du Prince? Du Gourmet? Anyone here concerned about these? Hoyo seems to be a candidate for thinning by HSA. I understand that most of these "du" series need some age to show well. I really like the HdM profile (EE,E2,E1) but understand that the "du" series is different (I have never had one).

for a dozen years I bought dip#4's and #5's ... others wondered why I would go to cuba and bring home diplomaticos .

now that they are discontinued ... people are ... "why didn't I get some/more when available ???" .

want to be part of the solution ??? buy the more obscure cigars on the shelves now ... leave the ones with 2 or 3 bands sitting there ... while you are at it leave everything with a ring guage over 46 sitting there .

try as I might ... didn't work for rs#12's or party sdc#2's tho .

Yes they are very different - I don't like them while I like the Epicure series; but why would you worry about cigars that you haven't tested yet?

Your priority is to identify and figure what you like and why, and trust me, it's a lengthy task!

Thanks for the advice Derrek. I actually prefer smaller rgs so it should be easy to follow (except when those smallish rgs that have 2 bands i.e. RA Superiores smile.png )

Thanks the advice Smallclub. I agree with your posting and I know what you mean about a "lengthy task". I have been collecting\consuming wine for over 20 years understand the "journey". I was all over the place in the early days, chasing points and not really focusing on tasting and figuring out what I like. I finally found my palate (decided to focus on Burgundies and Champagne and go deep by producer) but I was left with bottles of Shiraz, Cab, etc. in my collection that I never drink; remnants from my neophyte days.

I guess I should have asked the question as it pertains to "what should I try next before they disappear". I would hate to get to a cigar (or not even get to it) and find out I really like it (or would have really liked it), and have then have the cigar completely disappear from the accessible market. There is a lot to try, I guess I'm trying to figure out what to put at the top of the list so I don't miss out on loading up on "gem" before it disappears again. How does one avoid that "I wish I bought more when I had the chance." statement? We see it here all the time.

Thanks!
