Handshake - Obama & Castro

Recommended Posts

I think you mean the US "tries" to bring democracy to different regimes. Does not always work does it??? And our government only sticks it's nose into countries in which it has a vested interest for something it wants. i.e. OIL

Even saying "tries" is a little too generous. It's more like "uses it as an excuse" to do what they want. Spreading democracy at gun point is hardly spreading democracy - you can't force democracy upon anyone. But whatever story it takes to keep the masses at home more or less bought-in the to the idea, I guess...

i think all it means is that two blokes ran into each other at a funeral and shook hands. it being customary to do so and both being, to whatever degree you wish to attribute to each, relatively civilised. what on earth would anyone expect them to do.

possibly the biggest non-story in history.

Absolutely, positively, 100% agreed. I pretty much can't stand the guy, but it's such a non-story it's ridiculous. I think the selfie story is a bigger story than this handshake. (And even that story is worthy of little more than a roll of the eyes in passing.) I'm sure if Obama would have instead snubbed Castro it would have been a much bigger story. "Omigod! Did you see how Obama snubbed poor Castro?!?!? During Mandela's funeral?!?!?! What would Nelson have thought about that?!?!?!"

There's a bazillion other reasons to not like Obama. Why this handshake story is such a big deal is completely beyond me.

Cheers,
