Hiroshiro Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hey Guys just had a question to prepare. I will be heading to the mountains tomorrow and was wondering if smoking a cigar in high altitudes had any difficulties associated with it. I know some lighters don't work well in high altitudes but perhaps that's all i have to worry about? Thanks Gents and Ladies
AlohaStyle Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Just don't fall in the snow then your cigar will be okay.
Rye Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I love smoking on top of mountains! Just bought a pair of Xikar Stratosphere High altitude lighters to hopefully combat the only issue I've had.
Jeremy Festa Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 They burn much slower. I once had an hour and a half PC high in the French alps! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Hiroshiro Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Trying to Decide what to take with me. I got Monti D, Punch Church 00', LGC #2, Monti 2 08', Diplo privi, Mag 50, Some Bolis and Recent monti 2s to share with my board members. So hard to Decide!
Hiroshiro Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Haha just want to make sure but problems ahead! Lol I don't go up very often. Silly snow
ned Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 be aware of the possibility of High-altitude cerebral edema. i grew up in a town that was 7500ft above sea level and saw many people get sick. also alcohol has a great impact on you at altitude at that elevation 1 beer was like 2 at sea level. also a normal butane lighter wont work, i just used a standard bic lighter.

Philski Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Silly snow Whereabouts? The highest I have smoked a cigar is around 3,300 metres without a problem. I think you'd need to go a fair bit higher than that for altitude to be a problem. The main thing that would make me think twice about smoking high up (or anywhere for that matter) is if it's windy. Always wrecks a cigar for me.
Nino Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Highest I've smoked a cigar was ca. 3.400 meters as well, in a Kazahkstan weather station located in the Altay mountain range on the border to Kirgyzstan while drinking a Baltika beer with our Almaty Station aircraft engineer. The only problem we encountered was the non-working jet flame torches, we used matches. Great memories, this was back in 2005. http://flyingcigar.d...-in-luftiger-h/
Drguano Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Altitude sickness is an odd malady. I have hiked up to 4,000 meters without a problem and been hit hard at 2,400 meters. Go easy on the alcohol until you adjust and drink plenty of water. Have great time!
