Really? How come? Doesn't it only come with a 1 or 2 year warranty?

Maxijet has outlasted any other lighter I have owned. It still works perfectly after 2 years.

z-plus zippo butane inserts, about $10 each, either single or double torch or a soft flame choice, you can put them into any zippo case of your choice

You've had better luck than me. Any Colibri lighter I've bought bit the dust quickly. Swore I'd never touch one again years ago.

I've got a maxi jet that looks like its gone through a world war and lights every single time. It's been thrown in my golf bag, fell out of my backpack on my motorcycle ( luckily a buddy saw it come out riding behind me ) and its fallen off of my 4th story balcony. All to live and light all of my stogies perfectly.

Doesn't anyone own a mini jet ?

I've found that what is more important is using quality butane so the torch jets don't clog. I use cans of quintuple refined butane and haven't had a lighter problem since. My favorite is a Xikar triple torch table top the wife gave me for my birthday.

Completely seconded to this. I've used the Ronson butane (laughable), the Colibri butane (okay, but still has clog issues), and a few others. The Vector Quintuplus refined butane are fairly big cans and impeccable value for money. I've never had a fuel clogging issue since I switched to this fuel.

As for lighters....

  • Colibri Ambiance black gloss, original Colibri before the recent buy out - have had it since about 2005 or so, no issues at all (maybe one fuel clog, IIRC, but easily rectified).
  • Colibri xtreme lighter, orange and black - nothing but clog issues and sparker failures. Can't remember the exact name for it, but it has a clip and a closing lid to it; bought it to clip onto my golf bag and to use for out on the course.
  • Xikar Enigma dual-torch lighter, in gunmetal finish - great lighter, good size, but I'm on my third one since 2009 or so.
  • Vector Tri-pump, in black and chrome - awesome conversation-piece of a table lighter. Bought it from Mark Neff back in 2010 I think, and have never had a problem with it. Takes almost 1/2 a can of fuel, but it's huge and works amazingly well! LOL.
  • Recently bought a Lotus lighter last spring, but didn't work out of the box, and with online purchase and shipping delays, the vendor was unwilling to help get it replaced afterwards. Gotta send it to Lotus for repair / replacement.
  • After Marc / "brotherbear" turned us on to them, the Iroda Micro-Jet that I have is perfect. Great for travel / flying, due to ability to use a standard bic-style lighter as the fuel cell. Only about $10 on sale, and perfect functionality.

I still want to buy out Claus' ST DuPont Xtend in the Maori turtle tattoo design. biggrin.png

Im a big fan of anything made by Colibri. Not expensive, reliable, good customer service

I have a minijet and I wish I had a maxijet. It fits nicely into my pocket, but the fuel tank is too small. Apart from that, its great.

Maybe a bit of a sidetrack but where do most buy there butane from? Being in Canada no one wants to ship it across the boarder :(

Damn, sorry to hear that! Makes me think my luck will catch up with me

JETLine... Solid, Stylish,reliable.

I second the Jetline. I have many lighters from Duponts, to Xikars and a few in between. The newer square 3 jet jetlines are awesome as they are cheap to buy, have a huge tank, and are very durable. Sure you don't have a life time guarantee but at $20 a shot who cares. I will also say that I had mine out on the boat this weekend and even cruising at 35 mph in the wind I was able to light my stick without an issue. I find this amazing as no others I have will do this. Maxi-jets are nice but the newer version with the rubber outer case is a better bet for durability. They are very shock resistant as I have test out on more than one occasion.

Any tobacco shop should have cans in stock but be sure not to buy Ronson Quick Fill as it is absolute trash. try to find the Xikar branded stuff as I find it is better refined for my lighters.

We must be talking about a different brand as any Colibri product I have purchased I found to be absolute garbage. The 3 lighters I had broke swiftly after purchase and the cutter dulled and jiggled to the point it was unusable after 35 cuts. There is not a shot I will buy another from them. Even if customer service is good I would rather not need to call but rather just cut and light my stick up every time.

I have a Mini jet and find them to be just fine, but don't travel far from your can of gas as they have a tiny gas capacity and you will refill often. on a different thought I think I need to learn how to multiquote.

I have found a place close that does sell Xikar which i have picked up. The problem it's like 3x as much as it sells online... Seems everything in Canada costs more.

I love Canada but hate the prices. I miss the days of old exchange rates. see if you can mail order a case in Canada somewhere. I'm sure there are deals to be had somewhere.

I've yet to find anyone willing to ship across the border. Something about terrorists blah blah blah.

There's a little shop in the main mall here that sells lighters and light fluid, both butane and zippo,. This is where I bought both my lighters and the butane for them, it's Colibri triple refined butane and its a big can that ran me $7. Been working great in both my firebird lighters for the last 8-9 months. I don't know how much the Xikar stuff is at your shop, but I can always check out the shipping costs for you and I could pick a couple cans up and mail them to you. Might be cheaper. Let me know how much they cost up there and I'll investigate further here and get back to you. My email is in my profile.

No worry's, a big can of xikar cost me like $11 but at the rate i use it it will last me a good while.

059600_.jpgLike many here, I find a cheap lighter works best. I have had a few expensive lighters, either given to me as gifts or a package deal but none last, even with quality fuel.

I have two Porsche lighters - one came and worked only 2 days, a new replacement was sent and it NEVER worked.

This was a different 'quality' fuel.

Two expensive lighters, both junk. My $3 walmart lighter is still going strong 2 years later.

If anyone wants these to fix, PM me...

I had a PB 207 for a couple years but it quit working, (even after releasing pressure and refilling) it quit "sparking". I have a xikar XTX double now, works great and seems built heavier. If i dont lose it before it wears out I'll send it back to xikar for replacement, cant beat their warranty.

I left my maxijet out once in a thunderstorm - was dripping wet the next day (including the insides, I could hear water sloshing around inside). Still works like a charm several years later

I'm gonna use and try Uncle Nino's new S.T. DuPont lighter in November. Seems to work well, but I'm also a bit impartial to the looks of the older Xtends.

dpodiluk, if you need/want, let me know, and I can see about getting you particulars about getting the Vector quintuplus cans. They're a better fuel, IMO, being filtered like that and me not having any issues since switching all my lighters over to that fuel from the Colibri stuff. And, while air shipping is an issue, I can and do occasionally get cans ordered and shipped to my U.S. address and then directly picked up, so I can help you out with that tentatively, as some retailers work with me on that. Just send me a PM if you're adament about getting / trying those particular cans out.

And that other thing was shipped out today via Xpresspost - I'll follow up with a tracking number afterwards. ;)
