Not the most appealing topic to talk about but i wonder if other members find themselves spitting a lot when smoking some cigars especially when not pairing the cigar with any drinks?!

With some cigars, i find myself spitting all the time because of some flavours that i don't like such as lead or too much mineraly or earthy flavours ... The last Bolivar RC i smoked had me spitting at almost every puff during/after the second third due to too much lead/mineraly taste...

Can anyone relate to that?!

Not me. But sometimes I spit into the urinal in a public toilet. I've noticed this seems to be quit a common occurrence amongst my fellow urinators. I suspect it must be some kind of territorial marking instinct we males carry over from the Neanderthal period of our ancestors. yes.gif

While not after every puff, sometimes if I'm having a smoke and don't have a drink with it I will need to cleanse my palate maybe twice during a Boli RC by expectorating.....if it's a bigger cigar maybe more. There's probably some science behind saliva production increasing because of the dryness of the smoke in our mouths when enjoying a cigar.

Bro, forget the spiting. There is a bigger issue here ... your avatar. biggrin.png

What's with my avatar ?! Did you notice my adoration of Ron Zacappa Rum biggrin.png

I never spit anywhere apart from after brushing my teeth, I would have gotten a walloping from anyone, stranger or not if I spat in public as a child!

It seems everyone spits in the street nowadays, bunch of 'orrible little scrotes. Don't even get me started on littering! :D

I'm the same...I should have clarified that I only spit when I'm smoking outdoors as if I'm indoors I can get a glass of water, so I always make the effort to walk to the nearest drain and spit into that when required....if other people are around I just swallow to avoid spitting in front of people!

Haha, love it!

An even more common occurance I notice is people picking their noses and wiping it on the wall just above the urinal...wtf?

LOL. Where have you been hanging out??

That's hilarious, I was thinking the same when I first saw it.

i do find spitting sometimes does help with cleansing the palate and only really do it when i'm alone.

maybe its like getting rid of the old bathwater and introducing fresh water.

Its probably more polite to swallow when in company. (just know this last statement will not be taken the right way..)

Really? A thread about whether you spit or swallow eh?

I knew i was taking a chance starting this thread thinking that it will deviate from the intended subject :)

Do you have a third option by any chance ?!

Hahaha! I tend to drink, or rinse. I was trying to test your theory tonight while smoking, and nearing the end of my cigar, I haven't had the urge to hock loogies at all! I must have a deep seeded guilt due to my childhood, as others have posted.

Although, I did have an old Partagas Charlottes tar up on me, and I had to try and spit that nastiness out.

LOL. Where have you been hanging out??

This used to happen all the time where I work (a financial services firm). It eased off after a certain employee left. I still think the odd nugget appears though.

The things that happen in the bathrooms generally would turn your stomach - I've smelled better animal enclosures. We are supposedly a reputable business but the bathroom aromas suggest otherwise.

I know what you mean Paul. We’re not talking tonsil rattling loogies, but a little extra saliva. I tend to just have something to drink when I’m sitting down with a smoke. Well actually I don’t need a smoke or to be sitting down to drink, some might call that a problem J

For me as well, a very rare occasion, and seldom performed in public ,just the way i was brought up I would imagine.

having a good beverage certainly helps

When I used to smoke cigs in high school and a bit in college, everyone I knew would spit and so did I which became a habit. When I got into cigars, my habit came back and I had to spit a lot because i suppose I wasn't fully used to the taste of cigars. That winter I started going to b&m to smoke where I couldn't spit. I used to just swallow it with my soda which was pretty nasty at first but now I don't need to spit if I have something to drink.

I wouldn't have brought it up myself but yeah, I sometimes clear the palate that way, especially when the cigar gets short, burns hotter and gets stronger.

I admit ill spit if I'm outside and alone, it does cleanse the palate. Otherwise a soda water rinse does the job

20 something years of cigar smoking and never had the urge to spit regardless of beverage or not....

Seen lots of folks who smoke a cigar spitting all the time and never understood it.

Then again there is alot in life I don't understand :)
