Rushman Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Day 1 I landed at Jose Marti around 3pm. Yes, I forgot I needed a visa, and as a result missed being one of the first in the passport line after bring first off the plane. Braved the killer long lines in passport control as a result, didnt have any checked bags so went straight through to a taxi. Went straight to 5ta y 16 which was the meeting place for the wife, as her plane from Cancun wouldn't arrive for two hours. Wife used to go to Cuba one week a month every month, but stopped going about 3-4 years ago. Wife told me to bring mostly Euros and some dollars. I smooth walk into 5ta y 16, say hello to Carlitos Robaina, grab a few singles and head to the lounge. Ordered an espresso, Ron Caney 12 years and commence to smoking. Tried to pay and of course they dont accept Euros - my plan was to hit a cadeca but I hadnt yet. Used my card and as they were swiping it remembered I had failed to tell my bank of my travel plans. It sailed through, but that would be the last time it worked and although I am back home now it still wont work until I visit the bank. Never fear, hit a cadeca on the way to dinner and all was well. Just about the time (7:30) I was thinking about alternate plans if my wife didnt show, a couple of americans walked in. We started chatting, turns out one is a local diplomat and the other his friend. We chatted for about 30 minutes and then the wife and her friends that picked her up at the airport walked in. Hadn't seen the wife in 1.5 months so we did the kiss and hug thing, then I lit up another smoke and we ordered some drinks. Left there, went to our casa particular to get keys (rented a great full house in Miramar on Ave. 1ra between Calle 2 and 4) then went to dinner at El Aljibe. Had another smoke and called it a night. Day 1 smokes: Robaina Classico, Partagas Serie D 4, Hoyo Epi 2 and something else..... Here are some pics of the casa. Wife used to stay at a casa right on the beach near 1ra and like 14th, but it doesnt seem to be inhabited any longer. This one was a great substitute - much larger than we needed though.
