rfenst Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Culebra is always fun to smoke with a group of friends. Do they smoke well at just one year or younger? I ask because I am going again to this year's amazing, four-day long, "8th Annual Mississippi Fishing Herf"- with about 25-30 BOTL from another cigar site- and want to bring something unique or amazingly good to share. (Last year it was a couple 3-year old Culebra coffins and a fist full of amazingly phenomenal aged Hdm du Gormet.) I certainly could pay out the ass for a Regional Release or Edition Limitada, but just don't want to have to unless I cannot find anything else. So, in addition to whatever you may know about Partagas Culebra, is there anything anyone might recommend that is unique, fun, very well aged or the like, that wont cost me my "left nut"? (Rob, feel free to recommend something from SWITZ!)
sengjc Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 If you like Culebras stick with Culebras! Always a nice smoke and fun to share with friends. Or two.
ajgagnon Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I agree, there's no substitute for the Culebras. They're actually really good. However, a Partagas Presidente might be nice as another type of figurado, or a Boli Belicoso Fino or something like that.
Bcrowell Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Take a cab of Parti shorts and pass them out for breakfast with coffee. One day when my babies don't have me locked down on the weekends I will join you. Only an 8 hour drive.
mkz Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Some of the best cigar I've smoked have been Partagas Culebras! Don't let the shape scare you, it a Damn fine cigar and the presentation is a good excuse to share with good friends.
MC4 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Amazingly good for a funny looking cigar. Truly a very good cigar.
duwan Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I think you should go ahead and spring for Behikes. You would only need 4 boxes or so, and I'm sure it would be a hit with everyone.
brazoseagle Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Salamones are always fun and different from the norm.
TankerT Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I heart Culebras. Great cigars for friends...
rfenst Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 I think you should go ahead and spring for Behikes. You would only need 4 boxes or so, and I'm sure it would be a hit with everyone. Bite me.
rfenst Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 So, do they smoke well when young or not?
hdryder Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think they were discontinued a couple of years ago so they wont be young anymore
rfenst Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 I think they were discontinued a couple of years ago so they wont be young anymore Don't know that this is accurate as a buddy has a box date 2012.
Jason Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I like them young, I've smoked quite a few (I actually like them a lot) and most of them pretty fresh, never had a sick one in fact
TankerT Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Don't know that this is accurate as a buddy has a box date 2012. Then your buddy may have been duped. The Culebra is my favorite, and I've been smoking them since 2008. I can assure you, they were discontinued in 2011. Never had one I did not like. Young or not.
TankerT Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I have several 2012 boxes....Maybe they have been discontinued, but they were making them and boxing them as of June 2012 (youngest one I have MUR code) Interesting. Well... it is Cuba... (perhaps they had boxes/bands or other things made they didn't want to waste?) I know you're pretty knowledgeable so I'm assuming you're comfortable with your source.
BonVivant Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 MUR JUL12 are available as well Fun cigars!
Jnaube Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I think you should go ahead and spring for Behikes. You would only need 4 boxes or so, and I'm sure it would be a hit with everyone. Are you looking for new friends
Jnaube Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm not that knowledgeable, I just yap a lot....Yes, my source is pretty much direct from Havana House which is the Canadian distributor of Habanos, so no worries from me. Plus, faking culebras would be a serious challenge for not much reward!! I really think it sucks they discontinued this vitola. It was one of the most unique cigars to come out of cuba.
Lotusguy Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Still plentiful available everywhere... I think they decided to not kill them after all.
BonVivant Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Who says Partagas Culebras are discontinued? HSA? where?

AussieCanuck Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I bought a box from the Partagas factory when I was there last month. I too was surprised when the box date was 2012. I was under the impression that they had been discontinued as well. We checked and couldn't find any older.
