Loonytoony Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 OMG. Seriously if you havent tried one. YOU BLOODY NEED TO. What a magical experience. It was quite hard to pinpoint what i was tasting. I got a little shortbread/rich butter flavour. I got a taste like croissant and nuts. Actually i couldnt pinoint till i remembered an icecream i had called pralines and cream. It actually gets a bit of strength in the last third which is awesome. Serously try it. Rob review this cigar
Fuzz AI Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 I haven't had one of these for years. Just can't find the time to fully enjoy such a long smoke.
GreenPosiden Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Agreed, time is definitely the issue. 2006 was my last one, my 21st birthday.
sharks Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Got one stashed in my humidor. Just waiting for the right time and enough time to smoke it
Loonytoony Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Dont wait for a special moment. This cigar needs your full attension.
jazzbass Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I was given a Monte A a few years back and stashed it away in one of my humidors and I felt that I'd light it up when there was an occasion deserving a cigar of that stature. I just found out that it came from a box dating back in the late 90's. Have I waited too long and is it possible its past it's prime?
davidsan Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I've got one coming and hope to smoke it Christmas day in the evening once it's cooled down a bit.
polarbear Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I bought a box of coffins for a mates wedding earlier in the year Aside from the wedding night, he said it was the highlight of the weekend.
jedipastor Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I'm with you 100%. I had a 5er from 2002 and each one was just brilliant. Quite mild, but VERY flavorful. Only 1 left
jedipastor Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Yea, 2.5-3 hours. You don't want to rush it either, both because it's a great stick and because rushing milder cigars usually makes them taste like an ashtray.
backslide Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 The idea of such a cigar is cool, but I would never commit myself to a 3hr smoke.
Traz Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Been keen to try one of these for a while now. Unfortunately most of my mates are all far too soft to handle a cigar like this; and smoking alone is never as enjoyable. Hell, last time I gave one of them the honor of a humble 1.5~ hour smoke and they only finished half of it; such a bloody waste! Got a friend down in Melbourne who could probably handle a Monte A, but we usually only get on the drink once each year. Still, I'll have to grab a 5er sometime soon, and hope for the best. >_>
jacktarnold Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I've always been drawn to this cigar just for its awe invoking appearance. I've been wanted to pick up a few now maybe the time. I'll just have to make the 3 hours that it would take to smoke a cigar like this.
canadianbeaver Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Have a set arriving today... Plan to make them available for Matthew to give as corporate gifts this Christmas and to put a few away for us. No way we will be able to try them until summer but should be quite the experience! Normally would not buy anything this time consuming, but as a collector, could not resist. ***UPDATE*** OK so my Monte A's arrived today and they seem to have some real age on them?? The boxes are nowhere to be found on Google images but DBall, my mentor for older cigars tells me not to worry bout where I got them? Anyone ever seen these before?
bassman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Perfect cigar for a long drive. Wouldn't buy 25, but currently enjoy boxes of 5 from 04 & 08.
nikesupremedunk Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 wow, that's definitely an older band. maybe from the 90's? this thread makes me want to buy a 5'er to stash away.
jacktarnold Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Those look absolutely fantastic. I wish those were at my place instead of yours; however, I am willing to wager you will enjoy those immensely. You will need to post a review when you smoke one.
canadianbeaver Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Just got the info on them... 1999. I have been scoring some incredible finds lately. Must be a horseshoe around here somewhere! Will report in the spring for sure, perhaps with my buddy Art. And Matthew is not giving these to anyone.
maverickdrinker Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 nice score. I has some from the late 90s that I got rid of this summer as I don't have the time commitment to smoke them anymore. Great golf course cigar as well as a great herfing cigar, chatting with friends.
canadianbeaver Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Lol figures Sanchez. I think I have scored this wicked Cuban masterpiece and you got rid of yours like they were a problem. La di doo! Pffft.
