Ken Gargett Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 now i had planned a series of reports detailing our adventures but there have been some hiccups. 1. IT - got my IT bloke to set up the computer to ensure i can link to the internet when away and receive and send emails. the result is that i am now on an airport computer because i can do none of the above. that would be the IT bloke rob recommended. 2. theology. i now have incontrovertible proof that there is no god. the evidence? thy name is qantas. 3. in a past life, i was adolf hitler. that is the only explanation for the endless crap that this trip has brought. and not even out of australia yet. last week, endless hours on the phone with the stumbling wombat to ensure that all flights are linked so everything runs smoothly. get to the wombat desk at an ungodly hour (appropriate enough, given No 2). all flights have been unlinked. they have me going to sydney. the poor woman spends ages sorting it though we are both still unsure if my luggage is going to san jose in costa rica or san jose in california ("costa rica. that is a country, right?" - ranks right up there with the dept of immigration official who assured me that there was no such country as cuba and if there was then all cubans had to do to get a visa to australia was to pop into the aussie embassy in washington dc. you could not make this stuff up). 4. just when you think... walk into the lounge and there, on the tv, 'central america devastated by earthquake'. fortunately, it does seem several countries away but for a minute... 5. finally, yes, i did step on a para-olympian. not just any para-olympian but, as our hostess kindly reminded everyone, a gold medal winning para-olympian. but in my defence, it was an accident and to be fair, it is not as though he could feel anything. i am off to the bar. if this plane does not do a 'lost' in the pacific, it will be a miracle.

Freefallguy Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Breaking news.... At dinner an hour ago and moto cops, lights and sirens full tilt, speed by and then the bar turns to TV news... Downtown protests have turned ugly and they closed Segundo Avenido. My driver said, "Don't worry about, they're not close, at least a kilometer away. Ken has yet to land and the capitol is in an uproar. You can't make up this stuff.
