I've been offered a 50 Cab from my source. Question is, I've searched through the forum and everyone's been raving about the 98s and 08s. Should I pull the trigger on these or keep hunting for 98s and 08s? At their price point, I don't think I'd want to stock on more than a cab of 50.

Sorry about that.

The box I'm talking about is a 50 cab of Trinidad Fundadores 2003, don't know the code yet. It's just that when I've searched for any reviews about it, everyone's been mentioning the 98s and 08s as being the best years when it comes to the Fundadores, whilst all other years sound lacking somehow.

Assuming you've been offered '03s? I can't speak about the Fundadores specifically, but I've smoked many great cigars with '03 box dates. Upmann Sir Winstons, Bolivar Coronas Gigantes, Sancho Panza Gigantes.....

If I trusted my source and their ability to choose quality cigars, I'd probably not shy away from 2003s.

Thanks, now it makes more sense.

I would echo khomi's suggestions, but hard to say conclusively...no idea how the post-00 Fundys will turn into.

Thanks everyone. I guess when considering the price point, I'd rather not take any chances and see if I can track down some 98s, if not, maybe the 08s.

'05's are pretty good, nice and smooth and refined now, 08's are darn good too. I have some '09 ones that I think will be stellar in time, and the '10 and '11 ones are talked about like they will become the next 98's. I haven't actually had any 98's yet, so I can't compare to that. I'll be planning on delving into some fresher ones, the '10s and '11s, when I hit Cuba in November, so I might be able to make a better call on aging potential for those then.

But I don't think you can go wrong with either of those dates. A cab of those are definitely a wonder to behold.
