It’s “Review Competition Week” again and I wanted to do something special this time. Last year I did a comparison review of an ’08 and ’10 Ramon Allones Small Club Corona which you can find here: RASCC vs. RASCC

Due to my collection topic I wanted to try one of the pride and joy’s of my collection, something special to me and something that I hadn’t smoked yet. I considered my ’03 Partagas 898’s, or my Monty Grand Edmundo’s, but after thinking it over some more it was clear that there was only one clear choice. Or should I say three clear choices?

Serie du Connaisseur No. 1: LSM MAR 08

The last one of the series that I smoke on a great sunday today. Smoked a Dip 4 this morning with a coffee and while my mom went out for a round of gold, my dad and I went to visit my grandmother and I made some bacon pancakes for us after we got home, which pretty much constitutes a perfect sunday for me.

The SdC No. 1 is sleek, dark, and oily. It cuts easily & the draw is perfect. Pre-draw makes it clear this cigar is going to kick my ass, strong and spicy right off the bat.

1/3: The cigar lights easy & starts off pretty strong and spicy. After a while it becomes slightly milder, but still full flavored. I'm glad I had a stack of pancakes before smoking this stick, because it's pretty heavy right now.

2/3: This cigar has gone from kicking ass to being non-existent, it's completely empty at this point. There's nothing that really grabs me in this cigar anymore. I hope that the final third will save itself a little bit & hopefully it still needs a little age, but so far it's a little disappointing.

3/3: It picks up a little & isn't as bland as it was during the second third. But it isn't as impressive as I hoped it would be. It has been a bit of anti-climax to this otherwise beautiful day, but more importantly, it's an anti-climax to the Serie du Connaisseur line as a whole.

After reviewing these three cigar I'd rank them as follows:

1 - Serie du Connaisseur No. 3

2 - Serie du Connaisseur No. 1 & Serie du Connaisseur No. 2

The SdC No. 3 is a clear winner in this race, honestly the other two didn't even come close! I hope the No. 1 & No. 2 will be better when I revisit them next year, but as far as I can tell, the No. 3 is perfect as is right now, and possibly one of the nicest cigars I have in my humidor right now!
