CBL Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 It’s “Review Competition Week” again and I wanted to do something special this time. Last year I did a comparison review of an ’08 and ’10 Ramon Allones Small Club Corona which you can find here: RASCC vs. RASCC Due to my collection topic I wanted to try one of the pride and joy’s of my collection, something special to me and something that I hadn’t smoked yet. I considered my ’03 Partagas 898’s, or my Monty Grand Edmundo’s, but after thinking it over some more it was clear that there was only one clear choice. Or should I say three clear choices? Serie du Connaisseur No. 3: TEB OCT 07 Yesterday I reviewed the Partagas SdC No. 2 and today I chose the No. 3. Third in line, second in review. Another rough looking wrapper, with a draw that shows a little struggle but which works fine with such a small ring cigar. The weather today is much nicer, and although it's cool & cloudy, there's hardly any wind that could make this cigar less enjoyable compared to its bigger brother yesterday. Lighting it with my torch proved an easy feat. 1/3: Deliciously mild for a cigar whose pre-draw reminded me of a young Partagas short! It compliments the double espresso I'm drinking with it. So far this cigar is great! 2/3: The amount of smoke picks up and it seems the cigar is beginning to open up a little more. The cigar reminds me of the early days when I just started smoking, and yet there's something new to it. This cigar has the perfect balance of aged tobacco that I love in "old" cigar, yet it still has the kick that only young cigars tend to give. I might have gotten lucky and cracked open a box that, right now, is at its perfect smoking age. Where the SdC No. 2 I smoked yesterday could still use some more time, this little fellow is at its equilibrium. I'm smoking it pretty fast, yet it doesn't punish me at all, I'm greeted with full flavors and a sharp, consistent burn. 3/3: The sun breaks through the clouds and makes the crystals on the wrapper sparkle. I find myself just staring at this cigar trying to understand what makes it so good. I can't. All I can do is enjoy this cigar and share with you that I enjoy it rather than why I'm enjoying it. The only conclusion I can make right now is that this is a crap review of an amazing cigar. There's no method to the madness, and no particular flavors I can explain, but sometimes all a cigar asks of you is that you sit back & enjoy the ride. And the Partagas Serie du Connaisseur is one hell of a ride!
maverickdrinker Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Very cool. Looking forward to see which one you prefer.
